There’s a French novel in this tale www.bbc.com/news/article...

Glad to see the media keeping the foot on the throat over school lunches! #NZPol

Is Brian Tamaki protected? Yesterday Stuff edited out the worst of the video footage from their article. NZ Herald quoted Tamaki saying his people were "peacefully" protecting kids. No-one in this Govt have ever condemned them. The last gov removed 2 tax free statuses - what will THIS govt do?

Journalists - you do not have to pad out your articles with Brian Tamaki's violent, defamatory quotes. You can simply report that he used social media to spread false allegations and bigotry, and cover what that has led to.

In a sentence never before uttered by humans, I am delighted to share that an alligator stole my conservation instructor’s hat by jauntily walking into the water while wearing it 🐊

An important read. tinangata.com/2025/02/08/t...

Meeting @wardruna.bsky.social with my son. Amazing to hear Einar Selvik’s experience meeting with Tangata Whenua in Te Wai Pounamu in 2000 was in part a catalyst for his cultural journey that led to Wardruna. Such awesome people to meet.

This is a very good explanation of Stargate, which is not a thing yet though is a thing. But it’s a good press release: www.politico.com/news/2025/01...

From man…to Matua! A comic about the transition Māori men go through after being called ‘Matua’ for the first time! Taken from my new book, which you can buy here: danielvernon.bigcartel.com

I've just started trialling this news app ground.news. It's US but can be customized. It rates news sources by political bias and factuality. Anyone else tried it? Keen to hear any opinions

This is a really good read for these times

This is good analysis on some very worrying reporting.

Completed my submission opposing the proposed Regulatory Standards Bill. Painful but glad I understand and can argue against the full lunacy proposed. I've never submitted as many submissions to anyone in my life than over the last 12 months!

2025 challenge to all New Zealand photographers, here's the resource, try & use the correct original Māori name for the places you've captured. Ōmakō kahurumanu.co.nz/atlas is just the best. I hope Te Ika-a-Māui North Island gets something similar soon. #Nikon #Photography #NZ

I love how ACT's terrible bill has normalised making submissions to parliament, so that there will now be thousands more submissions on all of the other bills from this junk government. But will there be enough back office staff to cope with the volume? #nzpol

Submissions reopened for treaty principles bill after record response and ‘technical issues’

If you read nothing else, then read bullet point #12 in Jonathan Bostons submission. Then submit your response to the Regulatory Standards Bill before 12/1 please. #nzpol

1. As Zuckerberg abandons fact checking in the name of “free speech”, let’s take a moment to examine this concept. 🧵

Cat won’t go out and has taken over again…

WTF, the entire parliament.nz site is down with a 502 error. Most likely due to people trying to submit against the Treaty Bill (or less likely a DDoS attack) #nzpol

You can make a submission on the Treaty Principles Bill until 11.59pm Tuesday www.parliament.nz/en/pb/sc/mak...

Something interesting you might not have realized: a number of words in English are nouns when you stress the first syllable but verbs when you stress the second. "Your CONduct is better when you conDUCT yourself appropriately.”
