Scarlet elf cup fungus providing an eye-popping splash of colour on the woodland floor.

Domestic energy geekery. Heat pump just had its annual service. Average SCOP over the last 12 months (seasonal coefficient of performance) came in at 4.6. That means we got 4.6 times more energy out of it than we put in. 😃

Fabulous!

There is a new study out in Nature about the Atlantic overturning circulation. I will be curious to see the media reporting on this. If you wonder why, read my blog article on it! 🌊 www.realclimate.org/index.php/ar...

I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America. #AcademicSky

Today I'm at a hedgelaying competition (as a spectator!) in Cambridge on @linesmartin.bsky.social farm They're laying a young maiden hedge. This will thicken it right out from the base, make it a lot more robust, better for wildlife etc Also a great time to get those damn spirals removed

What is this 'wearing shorts in the middle of winter' thing? Windchill minus 2C and there's a bloke walking down the road with his legs on show, gradually turning blue.
