Thought we'd throw one in the ring

This was the motto of the civil society movement to resist Bolsonaro’s right wing authoritarianism in Brazil. I learned it from @annagalland.bsky.social and love it. Would love to see American designers do their own interpretations.

A shocking 19 out of the 20 natural amino acids twist left rather than right, a phenomenon known as “homochirality”. The name tells you all you need to know. The only way to address this bias is to make it easier for cancer and other diseases to kill people by slashing Woke NIH biochem funding.

I'm deeply saddened to share that Donald Shoup passed away last night. He was the ideal academic—curious, methodical, and concerned with turning ideas into real-world change. TAing his parking course these past few years has one of the greatest honors of my life. Rest in peace, Shoup Dogg.

Brazilians have the perfect saying for this: "não vem com garfo que hoje é dia de sopa."

Can anyone say whether NOAA’s hurricane warning systems are important in and around the Gulf of America?

I know folks are exhausted. This is a firehose designed to get us to tune it all out. But we can’t just tune it out. Too much is at stake: 🧵

"Either he knew what slavery meant when he helped maim and murder thousands in its defense, or he did not. If he did not he was a fool. If he did, Robert Lee was a traitor and a rebel–not indeed to his country, but to humanity and humanity’s God."--W.E.B. DuBois on Robert E. Lee, born #OTD in 1807 🗃️

the cruelty is the point.

not Lynch's movie, I know, but god, what a sendoff

Donald Quixote

Farewell to a great reporter on California's transportation policy and politics. Melanie's work was invaluable to our field.

Banning upzoning may slightly slow down gentrification (density does bring more consumers that can accelerate retail turnover), but it will definitely accelerate the displacement associated with gentrification. It's important to understand the distinction btw gentrification and displacement.

i’ll be honest, i think equating land use reform with neoliberal deregulation and building code reform with tenements is a clear indication that the anti-YIMBYs are not particularly interested in solving the problem of high housing costs

Expanding highway capacity delivers none of the benefits its proponents claim and induces massive amounts of new driving (and associated GHG and criteria pollutant emissions) while destroying our cities. It’s the worst type of investment imaginable

The Parable of the Sower is exhibit A against the argument that you can’t make great art out of climate change
