200 million dollars of waste.

“Like how can you be a remotely competent historian without insisting upon a Great Man interpretation that actual historians rejected ages ago?”

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

"If Trump really said that Ukraine started the war?" Dude. Google it if you don't know. The definition of "low information voter."

Remember when racial equity was banned in college admissions because John Roberts declared that racism is over? Who could have foreseen that claim used to fire Black people as "inherently incompetent?" Oh right, literally everyone.

www.maine.gov/governor/mil... Standing up for all of us. Thank you Governor Mills and thank you Maine.

Interesting thing for the President to say about a person who, according the government’s lawyers, “has no actual or formal authority to make government decisions himself” and “only has the ability to advise the President, or communicate the President’s directives.”

If you haven't realized it yet, Trump and MUSK are doing an open coup and purging the government of any guardrails as they assume authoritarian rule. But pronouns! Kamala is a woman! Woke!

If people were really just dying from chronic diseases then how come they weren’t dying from their chronic diseases until after March, 2020?

This is really worth reading. @adamserwer.bsky.social stitches together so much so clearly: www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

read @donmoyn.bsky.social in @theatlantic.com: "The costs of dismantling agencies, dramatically politicizing state capacity, and demeaning the idea of public service will still be counted long after Trump has departed the scene." www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

New from @karenhao.bsky.social: more than a dozen workers in federal agencies outline how the administration is pushing a new ideology and stoking paranoia within the government’s ranks. “People are terrified,” one source said, “not for losing their jobs but for losing democracy.”

The man is completely delusional. This is completely delusional.

Trump and Musk are effectively cutting Social Security payments by closing local offices A single SSA office closure leads to a 16 percent fall in the number of disability insurance recipients in a local area

Information was shared illegally. A career employee at the Social Security Administration provided unauthorized access to data to Elon Musk’s staffers. This employee, Leland Dudek, a data analyst, was recently promoted to acting commissioner by Trump.

I'm not reblogging this for a pile-on because I'm sure you have the best intentions, but I need for everyone to understand something very important. The lives of transpeople are worth fighting for with sledgehammers.

While many of you are likely yelling "GO USA" or "GO CANADA!" I'm yelling "GO literally any elected member of congress and the rule of law, please, anyone or a single check or a solitary balance or—

For decades, the US government has painstakingly kept American science #1 globally—and every facet of American life has improved because of it. The internet? Flu shot? Ozempic? All grew out of federally-funded research. Now all that's being dismantled. 1/ www.technologyreview.com/2025/02/21/1...

LOL "It's not piracy to steal and use copyrighted works, as long as you don't share them with others!" Ok dude.

Trump already signed an Executive Order claiming that no one in the Executive Branch has the authority to interpret the law. This is more of the same; it's all politicization of public servants. I just wonder if they realize how much work it is going to be for Trump and the AG.

What this industry needs is less regulation and for the federal government to switch to it from the gold standard! ALL HAIL THE BLOCKCHAIN!

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

I wrote about how particularly ridiculous it is that Senate Democrats, led by Dick Durbin, think the priority should be repealing Section 230 and undermining the very open internet we need more than ever right now. www.techdirt.com/2025/02/21/w...

I’m asking Congress to provide disaster funding to help Californians recover and rebuild from the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. It’s all-hands-on-deck to support our fellow Americans and get them back on their feet to begin rebuilding as soon as possible.

Turns out the Dow doesn’t love it

I think the most wrong I have ever been as a political scientist was when I said in a public forum in 2020 that there would not be political violence in the US (Jan 6 was 2 mos later). Tonight’s purges are a clear precursor to more future such violence. This is textbook authoritarian abuse stuff.

Yes, it is entirely correct to point out that ICE officers do not have any legal authority to break into somebody’s home unless they get a judicial warrant; which they generally cannot do, because judges only issue warrants for probable cause of crimes, not immigration law violations.

If you are an agency employee asked to take a polygraph contact a lawyer *immediately*. I am more than willing to immediately respond to anyone being pushed into this. My email is in my bio and my signal is NationalSecurityCounselors.16

Hello. Democratic and Justice Officials. Heads up regular tax-paying citizens. This is how coups work. COUP. We are in a COUP and about to lose America. www.nbcnews.com/politics/whi...

The entire business model of American R1 universities is not viable without restoration of federal funding, & every individual institution pretending it can solve this problem alone is also not viable. University presidents need to be speaking out, collectively & loudly about this, in DC, right now.

The "offending" county failed to hold an inmate past his scheduled release date, but told ICE in advance when he was going to be released. ICE didn't show up on the release day, so the county is being "investigated" for [checks notes] not illegally detaining someone.

México, Canada and the EU are in talks to set up a free trade agreement that excludes the U.S. GOOD! We deserve to be excluded. Too many Americans voted out of bigotry and stupidity, and because of that America is now run by disgusting tyrant who is unfit to be a global leader.

DEI. DEI isn't about hiring people because of. It's about not rejecting someone because of. It's about awareness around society's biases. That is HEALTHY THINKING!

Hidden in a 122-page bill ostensibly about higher ed funding is a section that would prohibit protests at public schools and discourage students from engaging in the political process.🚨 🚨 🚨

Don't let the bluster and bravado create its own truth. We're seeing over-reach which will have such complex and widespread blowback and consequences, here, there, and everywhere, that the incompetents at the top will be overwhelmed and eventually brought low, as they should be.

It used to be "the left is making up all the stories of hate crimes or brutality." Now it's "don't let your heart be moved by the bad things we're doing."

This will go down as the Friday Night Massacre of the Military. First the Chairman of the JCS and now Adm. Franchetti, the first woman to become a member of the JCS. Next up the Air Force’s No. 2 officer & the top JAGs for each service. Martial law is coming. breakingdefense.com/2025/02/trum...
