This Juneteenth, I’m asking you to support two initiatives. 1) The Expansion of #FindThatLizard. I want to travel to get more photos of more species of lizards. 2) #FindThatLizard scholarship for girls, women, and gender non-conforming people interested in herpetology.

There are many reasons why I think the American democracy is in danger and one of those is in plain sight on the streets. Citizens cannot be grabbed by masked men with no uniforms and no visible ID, to be spirited away to an unknown location. They are literally secret police.

The news stations are talking about how much money the anti-ice protests have cost LA and I want to everyone to know, the protests didn’t cost the city money. **ice** cost the city money by coming here to terrorize Angelenos. Our city has the right to fight back.

1/Thought provoking & persuasive piece by @drjengunter.bsky.social that the term HRT should be replaced by HT (hormone therapy) or MHT (menopause hormone therapy), shedding 'replacement' and with it the suggestion menopause is a disease. UK very attached to HRT vajenda.substack.com/p/menopause-...

Ask yourself a simple question. If the majority of illegal immigrants were European, would these warrantless masked arrests and deportations be taking place across the United States? Would they all be smeared as dangerous criminals? Would marines be sent to LA? Would visitors from Europe be banned?

Ultrasonic flea/tick repellants for pets. Easy to find, splashy advertizing, but do they work? TLDR: There's no supporting evidence and often the 'evidence' that's used in marketing is crap. 1/3

I agree. A basic rule of statistics is to retain the information available, don't needlessly summarize it before analysis. A ranked ballot contains more information on a voter's preference than a simple check mark for one candidate. Therefore it better mirrors the preferences of a voter.

“They're missing the whole point in that we're seeing more fires, a longer fire season, more intense fires, more severe fires, because the climate is changing due to human activities,” said fire expert Mike Flannigan. “It's a serious omission, and that's being very polite.”

Right now the White House Situation Room is like a vacuum chamber except it isn't oxygen that's missing. It's missing qualifications, intelligence, experience, ethics, and the best interests of the American people and the world community. What could go wrong?

AI can bring many advancements as it develops but also at a cost: fewer jobs, lower wages, higher unemployment, new AI demands on scarcer water and electricity, lower average education, more plagiarism, a less intelligent population, more advanced fraud + disinformation, and less human originality.

Having a bit of a hard time with the concept that if a guy in a police uniform who has a police vehicle shows up I should lock the doors and call 911, but if a guy in a ski mask with an hGH gut appears to be kidnapping my neighbor, I shouldn’t ask who he is if I don’t want federal charges.

I just want to sit down with a Google AI person, one on one, and ask them what information their robots are going to steal if there is no one producing information anymore. Maybe they've thought this through... but I don't think they have. www.wsj.com/tech/ai/goog...

Alberta to charge for #COVID19 shots as its war against #vaccination continues. It’s clear government would be happy if no one requested the COVID-19 vaccine so it could pretend the disease doesn’t exist at all, by @gillian2.bsky.social www.thestar.com/opinion/cont... via @thestar.com

One month apart.

Not an official "Dear Veterinarian" letter but my own plea to avoid causing harm through inappropriate nitrofurantoin use in dogs and cats. It's a good drug for UTIs but only gets useful drug levels in the bladder (so it's useless for other infections).

A judge comes down HARD on "arbitrary" Trump administration directives that cancelled funding for a large number of NIH projects. He angrily noted "discrimination" against women's and LGTBQ+ health research. Read this entire thread, it's 🔥🔥🔥.

Trump meeting with Carney on G7: "Barack Obama, and a person named Trudeau didn't want to have Russia in, then I would say that that was a mistake." Fact check: Russia was suspended in 2014 following its annexation of Crimea. Harper was the Canadian PM, not Trudeau. It was a joint G7 decision.

#measles can harm children in many ways. The best way to prevent that from happening is to make sure they are vaccinated. Ontario and Alberta are seeing a historic rebound in measles cases, most are in unvaccinated children.

Seems like yesterday I pointed out the high probability Danielle Smith is MAGA given her fringe positions on health, including a past record of fighting against an anti-smoking group and her commissioning of a fringe pandemic report mocked by experts. Now she is following RFK Jr's advice. #cdnpoli

Seems like just yesterday I pointed out Trump's deportation support is in part based on a lie about immigrants and crime. I find nothing more disgusting than building hate against a group based on lies. But this is the new normal.

“No Kings Day is about standing up for our democracy. Standing up for our rights, our liberties and making sure that we are sending a strong message that we are going to have a free and fair democracy,” Deirdre Schifeling, the ACLU’s chief political and advocacy officer, told Democracy Docket.

Troubling trend.

Support for the Trump administration's aggressive approach on immigrant deportations is in part based on the repeated claim that illegal immigrants cause more crime. Yet I have been unable to find any evidence of this. In fact, the evidence I can find says the opposite. www.npr.org/2024/03/08/1...

I wonder what Trump would have to do to NOT get invited? Be convicted of multiple felonies and found guilty of sexual assault? Incite an insurrection? Threaten annexation of the host country?
