I owe the television part of my career to @joyannreid.bsky.social, as do so many other Black voices y'all never would have heard of if not for her. And *that's* why she's gone. They can treat black folks as interchangeable, but everybody Black knows that Joy was indispensable.

Cancelling @joyannreid.bsky.social means the door she held open for the next generation of Black voices will slam shut. Without her, the next her, won't get platformed by white media. That, of course, is why white media pushed her out. My latest in @thenation.com www.thenation.com/article/soci...

UM, I had NO idea facebook was tracking everything I did on the internet. EVERYTHING. I have diligently blocked and followed all ways to try to stop this messed up social media from taking from me, but this is the final straw… THESE JERKS! AGH! [screenshots on how to do it in the comments]

physics of climate impacts 101: - Stuff gets hot (worse heatwaves) - Hot air holds more water vapor (heavier rainfall) - Hot air is thirstier air (higher drought risk) - Warm water is hurricane food (stronger storms) - Hot water expands and hot ice melts (sea level rise)

Like the resistance starter packs are mostly white. The popular pods and newsletters? Mostly white. Heaven forbid you give money to Black and brown independent journalists or activists because they might ask you to get involved at a level beyond “share this dumb meme of Elon and Trump kissing.”

Tired papa doggo napping with his little ones.

Americans are ~2.5x more likely to die in a crash than a Canadian, ~3.5x more likely than a Spaniard, and ~5x more likely than a Japanese person. Here are a few of the articles I wrote in 2024 trying to understand why the US is uniquely terrible at road safety. 🧵

Our seventh most-read story of this year: When companies like Aetna or UnitedHealthcare want to rein in costs, they turn to EviCore, whose business model depends on turning down payments for care recommended by doctors for their patients. Read more (published October) ⬇️

Remember the right-wing plot to sabotage Jimmy Carter’s re-election by urging Iran to hold American hostages longer? You don’t? It’s a shocking example of the American right’s treachery that more people should know about. (Gift link to 2023 NYT story.)

But Make America Great Again… FOR SOME!

How to filter out AI Images in Google Image Search. Sharing this with my students so I figured I'd also share it with everyone here. Hopefully this image is still relevant given Google's changes. Save this on your computer or phone and refer to it as needed.

As a lawyer let me be clear: ABC News was NEVER going to lose the defamation lawsuit to Trump. They agreed to pay Trump $15 million bc in their view it's good for business. Don't let these oligarchs gaslight you: Trump is still a FASCIST threat. My article deanobeidallah.substack.com/p/dont-let-t...

STATE POWER is our only hope. He is not our President and will never be. These are the final election tally’s Dec 10th

On this date in 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked by the imperial forces of Japan. The loss of life and destruction was horrific, and it pulled the U.S. into the war. For Japanese Americans, it was a terrifying time. Overnight, we became the “enemy within” because we were of Japanese descent. /1

CVS (who acquired Aetna for $70B) is doubling-down on the lie the they’re losing money because of those pesky poor people stealing baby formula. In fact, profits are in the toilet because prescription drug profits are down, and patient care costs are rising.

Everyone kept telling me to join so here I am!! Please repost this to signal boost so everyone can find me?? 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Who here is inclined to agree?

I just cannot handle middle class white people telling me they are giving up because they're tired. I'm an Indigenous woman who grew up in poverty, whose family is still poor, who has lost so much of my family to suicide and addiction. I am tired. We are all tired. Some of us don't get to opt out.

every boxing movie is basically about this transformation

No matter what, Democrats will fight for our freedoms and values against the oppressors. We’re not going to submit to tyranny.

1/ We here in the Free Blue States need to have a serious conversation about “nullification”—a word that carries with it a lot of (deservedly) negative historical baggage, but a concept that will be absolutely essential to preserving our freedom and prosperity over the next four years. …

Starting a thread of gifts brought to me from the crows I’ve befriended. So far they’ve brought a balloon, a vape cartridge, an old golf ball and a tiny bone 🐦‍⬛

I’ve been thinking about how my stepdad kept telling me as a child that America would recreate segregation the first chance that it got. I hadn’t thought about him saying this since like 1990 but now I hear it almost everyday in my head.

I’m in Dwell this week, chatting with Anjulie Rao re: climate adaptation, the Army Corps, and why the US is so deeply committed to a development model that places people in high risk areas. www.dwell.com/article/why-...

“We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist” - James Baldwin

this is such a good piece, tracing the pandemic, and the economic response and withdrawal of the safety net.

It’s mostly white people who talk about echo chambers. Maybe you need the internet to meet people with different ideas but the rest of us do not. We know what the “other side” thinks because we deal with it every day! Everywhere! We’re fine. Carry on. Happy Saturday!
