Philosophers who assess grad school/PhD applications: do you care whether applicants have publications? Does it weigh strongly in their favour, carry no weight, or even weigh against? (you may wish to distinguish *any* pub from a *good* pub, whatever you take the latter to mean) #philsky

Congratulations to our winner of the 2024 Napier Medal: Dr Louise Loyant - a fantastic talk on her PhD research investigating inhibitory control across macaque species. #PSGBBristol

Congratulations to Maanasa on successfully passing her PhD defense! Dr. Maanasa is now heading on a new adventure as a postdoc. I wish her the best.

PhD vivas drive me nuts. They are so unevenly done in this country. It comes down to the personality of the examiners as much as the quality of the research. You might get someone looking to put you in your place. And you might get someone who lets problems through unchalleged.

Oh, need to withdraw from my PhD program which was employer funded tomorrow. Which, honestly, is a relief. I will find something that still generates a bit of excitement for me. No fault of the program. It 'fit the criteria' for work funding, which is really not the way to pick your PhD.

2011: Colombian kid dreams of being a surgeon 2024: PhD Bioengineering, from fighting superbugs to engineering microalgae to synthetic genomes 8 years, 3 degrees, 3 continents, 4 amazing mentors, countless experiments later. From Colombia to Saudi Arabia to the United Kingdom. #Latin #Scientist

When I was failed for my #phd, I wonder why there was no system to check. If someone fails to reach the expected level, surely it should trigger review by a third party? Or some investigating into guidance given should be made? #phdlife #phdchat #phdvoice

Waiting for acceptances or rejections for funding has to be my least favourite PhD/academia experience. #academic #PhD

Not to be out-done by the staff, our PhD students organised their own festive meal last night 🎄 We hope everyone else's colleagues are similarly brightening the dark days ✨🕯️

Sahar Magen, my first MSc student and first PhD student, defended her thesis today. I could not be prouder! 🥰

Today was my graduation, officially Dr Lizzie.

This PhD thesis just dropped. 🔥🔥

Thrilled to share that I’ve successfully defended my PhD in international law at University Paris Nanterre. My research delves into the tension between counter-terrorism financing measures and safeguarding principled humanitarian aid, with a focus on the Sahel.

What a week. (Waiting for proper photos.) Thanks to my advisors Kim Wilkins and Skye Doherty.

Officially wrapped up my first semester of #PhD!🥳 Grateful beyond words for the support, guidance & inspiration from my amazing academic family Drs. @benheddy.bsky.social @alisonkoenka.bsky.social @LaShawn Faith Washington @danielleberry.bsky.social 🙏🏽 @quinnie26.bsky.social @mehjabin.bsky.social

I do usually not post flawed selfies on this platform, but what shall I say… I just submitted my PhD!! 🎉🎉🎉 Massive thanks to my supervisor dream team @kienzle.bsky.social and @rgwhitman.bsky.social, I loved working on this so much! 😍

Just received something useless in the post: My degree certificate and graduation pack. For a degree I didn't work for. That I didn't spend 10.5 years of life orientation myself around. Congratulations, my arse. #KickInTheTeeth #phdlife #phdchat #phdvoice

I got an unconditional offer to study a PhD at Edinburgh. Now to apply for scholarships.

So, yesterday I passed my PhD viva with minor corrections! Thanks so much to Drs Rich Urbanowicz and Daniel Goldhill @influenzal.bsky.social I had such a great time, I really enjoyed the conversation and challenging questions! Dr. Donovan-Banfield, PhD has a nice ring to it ✨️🍾

Does anyone know where can i find fully funded PhD programs?

13 years to the day since I was awarded my PhD!

My #Phd desk, condensed matter physics and my little birdie to give me good luck 😂😂.

Stunning free #science vector art for your next poster, paper or talk 🤩 The #NIH has compiled over 2,000 illustrations including swatches and pattern brushes bioart.niaid.nih.gov #rstats #dataviz #phd #illustration

Last week, I had the honor to have a DOC scholarship ceremoniously awarded at the Festive Hall of the @oeaw.bsky.social . I am grateful for being granted this opportunity to conduct more research towards my PhD at @univie.ac.at ! Thanks @letigonzalez.bsky.social for emboldening and supporting me 😊

Proud of Drs. Wright & Mac, the latest PhD graduates of HaPI lab. Dr. Wright's thesis looked at 'Integrating Digital Health & Behaviour Change Following Bariatric Surgery’ & Dr. Mac's thesis was on ‘Understanding QR Code Check-in & Compliance Behaviour in the COVID-19 Pandemic’. Well done to both 🎓🥂

Travel grant (IDEA) deadline coming up for my #HRIconference submission and it's save to say that my baby will support me in style 👀🤖 #hri #AcademicTwitter #phdvoice #momademia

Just found a near perfect job which I'd be very suitable for. But it explicitly requires a #PhD. So, despite having the skills and knowledge, I'm intelligible. 10.5 years working towards a PhD, downgraded at the last minute. Really cuts off various futures. #phdlife #phdchat #phdvoice

Including my UG, I've spent 15 years in higher education only to be awarded 2 masters degrees. It's beyond a joke that you can work within all the guidelines for a #PhD and still be failed after revisions, right? Like, the system shouldn't let folk get to that. #phdlife #phdchat #phdvoice

Hey everyone! As you’ve seen from my bio, I’m a PhD candidate in forensic anthropology. I’m hoping to use this account to share some cool and fun stuff about my research and the field in general. Feel free to ask questions, too! I’ll do my best to answer them 📚📚📚

Call me doctor! I had four years of amazing PhD life studying bees and butterflies with the best supervisor @eockinger.bsky.social 🐝🦋🌸 read it here: publications.slu.se?file=publ/sh...

Last Friday was my last day at SCK CEN after 4 years of PhD research ☢️ So sad saying goodbye to the incredible colleagues and friends I made there, but really grateful for the experience. Going to miss you all!

Hey wouldn't it be a treat if I once a week share with you an ornamented object from the South Scandinavian Mesolithic? After all, there are so many good ones and only ≈150 weeks until planned PhD completion

Hello Bluesky! I'm Katie, a PhD student at the UoPlymouth, working on bottlenose dolphin monitoring using drones, acoustics & photo-ID. 🐬 I'm also a Doctoral Teaching Assistant, and help deliver undergraduates courses. Interested in all things marine mammals, get in touch if you are too! 😊

This is based on registry data in Sweden, where PhD working conditions are good in terms of a reasonably liveable salary and access to healthcare.

All good things must come to an end! This past week I got to defend my PhD thesis on 'the consequences of electrolyte engineering in electrochemical nitrogen reduction to ammonia'. 🥳

Proud moment as our PhD students @violecarrillo.bsky.social Hanyue Feng, and Nathan Ma present their research at the #UniMElb Faculty of Science Graduate Research Conference! 🌟👏 #GradResearch #PhDLife #FoSGR #Plant_Pathology

Hi there. I'm Abi. I'm a physicist doing my PhD in plasma acceleration at University of Oxford. I also post a lot of scicomm around the science of science fiction under the handle Pop Culture Scientist. Would love you to join my nerd space. #science #scifi

I may have jokingly told my PhD committee in a passing comment that I'd be ready to defend come Jan. 19 In no way will I be ready for it then, and I don't wanna ruin my birthday that way BUT, should I aim for it anyways using that date as a "deadline" for motivation? Only time will tell I guess

Huge congrats to @ambercowans.bsky.social on the acceptance of her first PhD chapter in @methodsinecoevol.bsky.social: 'Improving the integration of AI into existing ecological inference workflows' It's a perspective piece, but if you cant wait, the preprint is here: biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Hey 👋🏾, I’m a French Student at Clermont University. I’m Studying Biology cellular and physiology. I’m hesitating between specializing in human pathophysiology research or plant phytopathology. I would like to pursue a PhD in an English-speaking country. If you have any advice, I’m all ears !

I’ve followed the herd over to Bluesky 👋 🐮 I’m Laura, 2nd year PhD student @uniexecec.bsky.social with the ECORISC CDT studying the effects of veterinary medicines on #dungbeetles (and their #microbiomes). I enjoy rummaging through cow 💩 for invertebrate treasures! 🐄 🪲

I give up 95% per cent of my weekends and holidays to do my PhD work and I never seem to get any closer to the end

Yesterday, I submitted my PhD thesis on language contact in late medieval Iceland for examination. Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way! I'm very excited and very exhausted. What a ride! #DH #oldnorse

Next year I start the real business end of my PhD. I’ve just found out who my examiners will be.. Poetry royalty! I’m proper thrilled.
