Yeah it’s called having a cat

The first measles death in the US in a decade -- the tragic, preventable death of a child whose parents chose not to protect them with vaccination -- should spark an immediate nation-wide campaign to ensure all children are protected against preventable diseases. Anything less is unconscionable.

It's so continually frustrating how people continue to misunderstand right wing thinking. Almost every formulation of the social media gotcha "it's so wild how X when Y" is really just another way to say "I've never tried to understand the way these people think."

This is, btw, right out of the Nazi playbook to dehumanize people and give them a permission structure to hate.

The Original Indigenous Names for the Great Lakes: Superior: gichi-gami (great sea) Erie: erielhonan (long tail) Michigan: michigami (long body of water) Ontario: Ontarí'io\kanadario (great lake\beautiful water) Huron: karegnondi (fresh water sea)

Not a single disabled person I know would be surprised by this: the parents, families and friends of disabled people often are the very people who traumatize us, who present us as "burdens" and worse. Proximity to a disabled person means nothing.

One reason among many it's clear so many are not equipped for the moment is how often I'm still seeing people invoke the movie Idiocracy to describe this moment in time. If we can't even leave eugenics behind how are we supposed to get anywhere?

Free speech baby

Hey are you still wearing a mask? Cause we never stopped.

This article lays it out plainly. There's nothing to repeal. Costco doesn't have a DEI program. It doesn't have a diversity policy. It simply doesn't use discriminatory hiring practices. These AGs are in hysterics bcuz Costco refuses to segregate its business.

Yeah, the correct response here seems to be, "You first."

Been noticing lately, for no reason, that bread and circuses actually whip ass.

For millennia, the Karuk people in Northern California have used fire to actively manage forests. Murphy Woodhouse and Bill Tripp join us to discuss how the tribe is training others in this practice.

"The vast majority of PDFs I deal with now come from academic journals, and whatever witchcraft is needed to put footnotes, formulas, and embargo details into the text wrecks the thing I care most about: copying and pasting details that I need to write articles" arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025...

This enrages me beyond words. As my colleague Scott Kelley rightly put it - “Projected cost is $12/month per user For 500,000 CSU users, that's $6 million/month or $72 million per year. looks like we may have a 2-year contract. That's 480 faculty jobs at 100K salaries and 50K benefits.”

DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS: they are using #DEI the way #Nazis used ‘un-German.’ When the right says DEI what they mean is ‘the other’ and that’s how they target immigrants, women, people of color, Jews, #LGBTQ, ♿️, and anyone who supports or protects the vulnerable and marginalized. WE ARE AT WAR already

So much of liberal politics is about schadenfreude and literally nothing else. It's fucking infuriating

Ownership? What the fuck

not sure what will come of the ceasefire if things continue to take this particular turn

This is how autocrats throughout history have endangered the people they govern by erasing factual information vital to health and well being www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...

“In spring 1970, when Baltimore police raided the Panther breakfast program and headquarters, the BDC gathered in the streets with other radical activists to protect the Panthers from police repression.”

Man I hate when other people get your private information.

The remote work debate was funny because it forced the question "Is a job something valuable you do or is it a place you go to be watched like daycare" and the answer for a lot of them was yeah it's the daycare thing now come on inside recess is over

If you made this argument back in the day you were smugly dismissed as an economically illiterate lefty. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

"The people who run this country should not lead comfortable lives while the rest of us suffer. If decorum is dead, let it be buried." damn that is a BAR. made me pause reading so I could find out if the writer's on bluesky lol (she is btw @mckinneykelsey.bsky.social) defector.com/the-old-rule...

Stop writing “rolls back DEI initiatives” and start writing “begins resegregation efforts” challenge
