Been on a Zoom/Teams call with me? You've seen this picture before. Here's its story and why it's special to me philarcher.org/diary/2025/t...

Interesting stat: the GDP of New Zealand is aproximately 8 times that of Heineken, 2.5 times the size of Nestlé. #GS1GlobalForum2025

Sorry to hear this news. I had the pivilege of interviewing Tim Radford back in my radio days when he was promoting a book he'd written. www.theguardian.com/media/2025/f...

Delighted to be signed up to see @natashapulley.bsky.social at Toppings, Ely, in April www.toppingbooks.co.uk/events/ely/p.... And to have just found a special first ed of The Watchmaker of Filigree Street.

We can tell you a lot about cheese! ref.gs1.org/voc/?search=...

Comic Sans on a slide. I thought that was a sackable offence?

Competitive Excel anyone? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Probably my best slide today (explaining data inheritance)

Just read an email from someone making use of the prov-o, RDF Data Cube and Data Quality vocabs in real world applications (www.w3.org/TR/vocab-dqv/). Good work has lasting value...

For the record: yes, I had a good Christmas at home with the family, thanks. I hope you had a good Christmas as well. A very Happy New Year to you too. Can we take this as read for the next 2 weeks please so I don't have to keep repeating it?

Contemplating the concept of returning to work tomorrow. Lots to do and I'm keen to get on with it but, well, not until tomorrow comes...

I'm writing a quiz for our local village. I'm really pleased with this question - but do you kow the answer?

Verifiable Credentials at GS1 will happen. Our persistent repository, ref.gs1.org, will get some dev time, Vision 2030 is a massive & exciting programme, 2D rollout going well, staff award won. After 2 weeks of travel & time with friends & colleagues, it's time to head home to the family for xmas.

Friday at the office

Boarded an internal flight in USA (MSP-EWR). Delayed by 1.5 hours due to air traffic probs so we're allowed off the plane (with all baggage). Never had this experience before. Beer secured.

Def one of the best books I've read in years. Reminiscent of, but by no means a copy of, Sagan's Contact.

Another day, another example of how we're making the transition to 2D barcodes. The QR code on this small bottle if Adnams prosecco contains the solution provider's own ID and the GTIN, conformant with GS1 Digital Link URI syntax. One day, that 1D barcode can be removed, although not yet.

The US has its Out of Office switched on while they have the first of two turkey-based festivals in as many months. Enjoy the peace.

This is good advice.

Just realised that, as I'm travelling both w/c 9th and 16th Dec, next week is my last full week at my desk this year. Better get some stuff done quickly I guess.

I have cast GS1's vote in the W3C TAG election.

On a call earlier with 7 French people, all of whom very kindly held the meeting in English, just for me. Tres shameful.

I'm a long way from being a fan of Microsoft Teams but *this* feature I really like. It shows you who was speaking during the meeting. I was unusually reserved in this meeting, for example. My colleague Diane was presenting and so she, rightly, said more than anyone. The blobs are also chapter marks

My GS1 email signature now includes my BlueSky handle. First public email with that just posted at lists.w3.org/Archives/Pub...

Just saw GS1's new address written in an official document for the first time: GS1 AISBL Avenue Louise 523 B-1000 Brussels Belgium (We moved out of our old office in the Blue Tower 10 days ago)

I notice that the QR Code for voting in UK's biggest annual entertainment series (Strictly Come Dancing) has a Navilens border for greater #a11y. See www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/a.... Would love to see non-proprietary solution for accessibility so that GS1 can endorse it.

Anyone else uninstalled CoPilot? It was installed on my company laptop by the IT dept. I have yet to find a single use for it. My only interaction with it to date is to dismiss it. Some ideas just keep coming back and back...

Blue Sky is gaining traction, which is encouraging. Building up the conversation is hard work, but I'm hopeful for the future. Need to make sure I post interesting stuff - that's the first step!

Just dipping a toe in yet another social medium. Looking for a successor to Twitter that retains the integrity that was lost when it changed hands.
