@mellingart.bsky.social not sure just HOW many publication dates our latest book has... but who cares!

High praise, indeed, from Kirkus Reviews for @mellingart.bsky.social's illustrations in DO YOU SEE THE TIGER? (Kirkus is a highly respected, long-standing US book review magazine.) No mention of the beauty of my text, of course, because it requires praise beyond words! @walkerbooksuk.bsky.social

#NewIllustrationoftheDay. Polished work by David Melling from Do You See the Tiger?, with text by Philip Ardagh. In which a child is the only person who sees the tiger on the underground. Out from Walker Books on 20 May. @walkerbooksuk.bsky.social @philipardagh.bsky.social

1/2 Back in the early '60s I had poetry book which included Walter de la Mare's 'Some One [Came Knocking]'. Next to it was an illustration of a simple door and some foliage in the foreground; When you looked closely, however, amongst the leaves was a tiny little man dressed in green running off...

Evidence of my having eaten two of my five-a-day. Admittedly, the remains of my apple is harder to spot because I ate everything but the stalk. It's the way I roll.

I'm one of those 8% of men who find it hard to differentiate between certain greens and certain browns - described as green red 'colour blindness' but, in my case, more of a colour deficiency, so imagine my DELIGHT when this worked for me almost instantly. I hope it works for YOU.

1/3 "IT WAS TWENTY YEARS AGO TODAY..." Well, not to the very day but - amazingly - it's 20 years since #PaulMcCartney's book HIGH IN THE CLOUDS was published, illustrated by Geoff Dunbar and co-written by me, the extraordinarily lovely and talented Philip Ardagh... #PaulMcCartney

I READ CAREFULLY: I was out and about in my wicker bath chair when my companion pointed to this sign and said, "Why on Earth does it say, 'I read carefully,'" to which I replied, with the wit and erudition for which I'm famous on seven continents, "I think you'd better read it MORE carefully."

So very true. "Don't speak to the President of the United States like that," is easily countered with, "Then don't disgrace the office of the Presidency with your lies." I have every respect for the Presidency of the United States but none for Trump.

With bookshops closing for the day, I do hope you've armed yourselves with copies of DO YOU SEE THE TIGER? - or have ordered it from your local library - and have since returned home to read to your cubs. What a splendid publication day! @mellingart.bsky.social @walkerbooksuk.bsky.social

You don't have to be a GREAT BIG tiger to enjoy DO YOU SEE THE TIGER? Little ones should enjoy it, too. And it's published today: 1st May. @mellingart.bsky.social @walkerbooksuk.bsky.social

Spotted in the wild! AUTHOR-SIGNED COPIES of DO YOU SEE THE TIGER? word-wrangled by me and illustrated by @mellingart.bsky.social. They're to be found in Rother Books, Battle, East Sussex (beautifully modelled for us here by proprietor, Ian). Hurry, before they escape! @walkerbooksuk.bsky.social

Today's the day my DO YOU SEE THE TIGER? - illustrated by the wonderful @mellingart.bsky.social - hits UK bookshop shelves. Ouch! As with all @walkerbooksuk.bsky.social titles, it has been pored over by experts... who declared it a rip-ROARING read. "It's certainly earned its stripes."

We live in exciting - and stripy - times, @mellingart.bsky.social!

Psst. Exciting HEADLINE NEWS tomorrow involving this tiger. Can’t say much more until then or I risk the wrath of @philipardagh.bsky.social who I believe has some vague connection although details escape me. @walkerbooksuk.bsky.social are also involved. So remember; Thursday 1st May…TIGER.

There it is, in a nutshell.

I have waited my whole life, for this moment....

For those who ask, "Is there no end to your talent?", here's the definitive answer. 😁

Next drop: Guano Coin.

Am at Battle Station waiting for a train to London. Any guesses as to where I'm going, when I get there or - if not where, exactly - what it might relate to? If only there were clues...
