'What excites me is the chance to work with incredible scientists from all over the world, some of whom are just starting their scientific journey.' In #Profile: Charlotte Grossiord 👇 📖 https://nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/nph.20404 #LatestIssue #PlantScience

Check out our new article just out in The Conversation highlighting the effects of warming leaves +4°C in tropical trees. 🌿🌡️ theconversation.com/study-shows-...

Happy to share the preprint of our latest study on 2H and 18O fractionation, showing the close connection between leaf sugar d2H and the leaf level carbon dynamics. This was part of the 4th chapter of my PhD thesis, however it is now much more improved compared to the thesis version 🥂

Interested in plants under climate extremes? 🍃🌡️💧❄️ Submit an abstract to our session at EGU in Vienna, 27th April- 2nd May 2025! meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/sessio... Abstracts due Jan 15th @kateplantphys.bsky.social

The evidence for Homo sapiens playing the dominant role in the global #megafauna #extinctions constitutes one of the clearest, well-supported patterns in #ecology. I really love to collect seeds of rare and/or species that are often not included in studies, so I can grow them by myself and use them in my future experiments #plantscience #botany #plantphysiology #oaks #quercus

Look at these amazing Quercus infectoria subsp. veneris with huge acorns, looking similar to the ones of ithaburensis. Closely related to Quercus pubescens and the other roburoids. Likely having important genes for introgressive adaptation of robur and petreae in Central and Western Europe

The recorded talks from the 46th New Phytologist Symposium: Stomata #46NPS are available to watch on demand! Check them out on our Cassyni channel: https://cassyni.com/s/newphyt2024 Our call for papers on stomata is open until 14 February 2025: https://www.newphytologist.org/news/view/353

Bad news for Myrtaceae in Europe: we detected the highly damaging myrtle rust on dutch indoor bonsai which were sold in Obi, Switzerland. I have contacted the dutch authorities in charge, responsible for the phytosanitary certificates, however they replied in an incredible disapointing way (1/2).

I finally managed to find Quercus alnifolia, the endemic oak species of Cyprus. Amazing how similar it is to Quercus chrysolepis from California - oaks are the master of convergent evolution and evolve the same traits over and over again! #botany #quercus #quercisalnifolia #plantscience

The SNF just approved my research proposal to visit Todd Dawson's lab at UC Berkeley for two years 🌲☀️🌳 Seems like I will have to do my driving licence after all! 🏞️🏜️🌄 Thank you so much @snf-ch.bsky.social 🥂🎊

Check your baseline! It’s reasonable to assume that hippos in Colombia is a problem but studies don’t find the expected eco-catastrophe (doi: 10.1002/ECY.2991) Is it due to previous degradation from agriculture or a yet-small population? www.facebook.com/100001523860...

My department is hiring a fungal biologist! aprecruit.ucr.edu/JPF01990

Birds are excellent seed dispersers. Tip: To accelerate natural regeneration in an open landscape, "plant" some large dead branches in the ground. When birds fly over, they may stop for a rest on the branches, hopefully donating a deposit of seeds and fertilizer to your nat regen project!

I am excited to announce that we are organising again the #treering session at #EGU25. 🌲💍Abstract submission is now open until Jan 15. tinyurl.com/sbdt4ezp KerstinTreydte Jernej Jevšenak Annemarie Eckes-Shephard and Pieter Zuidema #dendrochronology

How do tropical rainforest trees respond to warming? 🌡️🌿We experimentally warmed canopy leaves by 4°C for 8 months and found significant declines in photosynthesis and stomatal conductance, with no shift in Topt. Read the new paper, led by Kristine Crous here: shorturl.at/AVTOk

🎄✨Wrapping up the year with laughter, good food and great company! Our Christmas party was the perfect way to celebrate our journey together ❄️🎉

Time to introduce myself! Recently, I defended my thesis titled "Patterns and Drivers of Leaf Thermoregulation in Rainforest Trees of the Australian Wet Tropics" where I focused on the role of within-species acclimation and adaptation on leaf temperature. Here’s a little summary of what went on…

Functional and phylogenetic diversity in plant communities are decoupled - check our new study just out in Nature Ecology & Evolution 🍃🍀🌸🍁🍂🌴🌳🌸🌼🪻#plants #vegetation #ecology #plantecology #communityassembly

Argyranthemum teneriffae from high elevations of Tenerife looking good after the first snow. Fingers crossed it will survive this winter. Will try to hybridize it with Argyranthemum pinnatifidum from Madeira next year #botany #plantscience #biogeography #plantecophysiology

Why am I a plant ecophysiologist? 7 years ago, I sat above the trees in a mature tropical rainforest and enter an entirely new world. Thanks to the Daintree Rainforest Observatory's canopy access crane. Now our much loved research station is under financial threat www.abc.net.au/news/2024-11...

Collected seeds of Quercus pubescens in south western Switzerland, Crete and Barcelona. Will be cool to see how they grow, and I am looking forward to use them in experiments :)also, I hope the ones from Barcelona are actually Q. pubescens!

I’m feeling a lot of goodness here having just made the switch, but some sad news – possible closure of one of the tropical world’s most important field ecology sites, the Daintree Rainforest Observatory and canopy crane in NE Australia. www.jcu.edu.au/daintree #ecology #tropics #botany #zoology
