I am sad to say the performative lying and muckraker journalism today is a return to the norm. Analysis says our experiences in the final half of the twentieth century were the abnormal.

At this rapid pace, many AI companies are oblivious to the fact that their creations have a one-year shelf life. The next big thing is just around the corner! It will likely not be theirs.

I think I have finally put my finger on the existential problem we all have been experiencing. We are and have been witnessing the end of the human scale.

I’ve been analyzing the utility of major LLMs/AIs since ChatGPT’s announcement. I prefer Claude by Anthropic for its conversational style. It has other advantages that matter to me too. I recommend trying it if you haven’t. claude.ai/api/referral...

I'm tired of the madness of the outrage engines. Can we get past what is and be sane again? Only in our sanity will we get through this crisis.

We seek labels to wear— to place upon our brow— to say to ourselves and to others, “Yes. This is me.” And in time, we realize: “I am not, was not, what this label means. This label I chose to wear."

Microservices only pay off when you have real scaling bottlenecks, large teams, or independently evolving domains. Before that? You’re paying the price without getting the benefit: duplicated infra, fragile local setups, and slow iteration. — Oleg Pustovit

I love having a personal local noon on a 24-hour clock face.

Anyone doing anything differently than we would is weird?

A small internal change can have unforeseen and profound effects on your future for years to come. A change you will rarely see or understand until its effects are established.

AI is becoming the next ESB, SOA, DevOps, or Micro-service Architecture, stripped of its meaning, adding complexity to enable sales teams to profit from the next generation of corporate management with products they already have on the shelf.

When I've built an internal identity upon how quickly I learn broadly or deeply depending upon the moment’s necessity, it is strange to realize how slowly I learned some lessons life sledgehammered me with over and over again.

Pick One Team Reformists: Working within the system to improve it incrementally Conservatives: Preserving established orders and traditions Nihilists: Rejecting the legitimacy of existing structures Utopians: Envisioning and building toward fundamentally different systems

What does Human Resources do? It ensures we all understand that “it’s the person’s fault, not the rules.”

We converse to understand each other, ourselves, and our surroundings.

We create our monsters, slowly, over time, from the regular people we built into heroes.

For a short time today, I sat beside my wife and watched as the nature of light through the window changed and travelled across the objects in the room.

We imagine worlds that have never been and worlds that can never be; alternatives unavailable, lost to a fork in history that is behind us.

Kurt Vonnegut died on this day in 2007. "Thus did a handful of rapacious citizens come to control all that was worth controlling in America. Thus was the savage and stupid and entirely inappropriate and unnecessary and humorless American class system created."

All of my life, I have wanted words to have meaning. Finally, I acknowledge that they do not.

Fortunately or unfortunately true across time: Much of the initial shock soon faded.

Perfect sentence of the day: While I walked around in my baseless existential misery, the world burst with life around me.

Everything you thought you knew about the future is about to be so wrong that you’ll be amazed at how you held onto old ideas.

What percentage of corporate measurement of human capability is a measure of the actively anti-human system surrounding these humans?

To see all the times you failed and all the times you succeeded, to see the average; mean, median, and mode; all the distribution, and standard divination.

It didn’t have to be this way. It’s is how it is now. The future is determined by the second statement, not the first.

Isn’t it cute how all these attorneys general are suing the current administration like the rule of law still matters?

I’ve been starring repos on GitHub since 2011. Lately I spend confined time blocks for days exploring, evaluating, considering if I can help, and unstarring the dead, disfavored, and discarded.

We are in the golden age of replacing things that already exist with things that are inferior.

Interacting in open/social forums reminds me why I rarely interact in open/social forums.

Humans persist in offering ideas, wisdom, observations, and creativity to one another. Corporations keep taking it and claiming it as theirs. Actively #antihuman

Social Media and the Discursive Disease

It took me a while to comprehend my reaction to the social media stream of the past decade. It’s a constant flow of text and images, with no beginning or end. It’s like a river of noise that’s causing the discursive disease that’s broken us, and I’m a part of it.

I’m curious to know if others share my opinion that The Wheel of Time, season 3, is a mess.

Norms erode gradually, then suddenly. Institutional knowledge is lost when community elders step back without transferring values to newcomers. Growth and success often bring participants who didn’t share in building the culture and don’t value preserving it.

Guess what? I’m officially moving to Zed! It’s been a few months since the big announcement. I think it and I am ready! related: zed.dev philoserf.com/posts/the-pr...
