I wish he'd recognize that it's not 'the Hard Left' but the majority of voters that he's opposing... We don't want what he's selling/ trying to buy

Tan and his buddies from Y Combinator have spent nearly $1M since 2020 on local elections — most recently $10k to oppose Engardio’s recall, and $10k to support Loren Taylor’s losing Oakland mayoral bid. The doom loop is dead, and he’s flailing.

2 degrees of Donald Trump, San Francisco edition

San Francisco’s Donald Trump Connection A closer look at how powerful SF figures and institutions have backed Trump — and how they’re shaping local politics.

NEW EPISODE: Scot and I speak with Viviana and Nicole of Care 4 Community, a non-profit that campaigns for a people’s agenda in Oakland. C4C’s door-knocking was instrumental to Barbara Lee’s mayoral win and we get into what the streets were saying. @dscotmiller.bsky.social youtu.be/aV2um7T9lcA

Daniel Lurie’s first 100 days as San Francisco’s mayor have brought a shift in narrative more than in reality — with better vibes, but not necessarily better policies.

The sudden Chan Zuckerberg divestment from housing and racial justice organizations underscores the problem with a system based on philanthropy instead of progressive taxation. The better way: tax the hell out of billionaires and invest the revenue in communities.

Landlords and real estate lobbyists are over the moon with this news that SF rents are rising. Stronger rent control could bring rents down. Social housing could bring rents down. But the real estate industry profits from runaway rents, so they actively oppose policies that would lower rents.

The mask is coming off of the Network State cult. Here is Network State evangelist Balaji Srinivasan boosting Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong calling for the creation "10 or so" new tech cities on federal land. Of course, Trump has already announced plans for 10 new cities...

Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson’s Abundance helped rebrand Reagan-era economics for a new generation, but behind the gloss lies a familiar web of tech, real estate, and right-wing influence.

Yesterday, the @sfstandard.com published a now-deleted satirical opinion piece titled "20 people we'd imprison in a reopened Alcatraz," attributed to the entire "Standard Staff." The list included a politician that the Standard's billionaire founder Michael Moritz disagrees with. archive.ph/4GoG2

NEW EPISODE: I speak with James McGrath, longtime Berkeley activist about what’s really happening there. Like Emeryville, it’s been taken over by YIMBYs. We talk about the impact of real estate interests, bike lanes and consultant shadiness. @dscotmiller.bsky.social youtu.be/LWhCNutNAsQ

There’s too much red tape in the way of taxing billionaires. We need to streamline taxes on billionaires.

Have you heard of the 1033 Program? Well, it’s only the beginning… 🎙️ How Local Police are Using Fabricated Panic to Purchase Military Weaponry 📢 The Law & Disorder show, with Joey Scott (@joeyneverjoe.bsky.social), who recently exposed the surge for @theappeal.org open.spotify.com/episode/15Zi...

Mayor Lurie’s first 100 days included a rollback of harm-reduction policies, replacing evidence-based care with an abstinence-only approach.

Beware any ”tech critic” who isn't dealing with these topics. The field is infested with self-styled ”truth tellers” who somehow avoid taking on the deeper, darker aspects of Silicon Valley extremism.

Barbara Lee has won Oakland’s special mayoral election, defeating Loren Taylor by in 5,000 votes.

@equalityalec.bsky.social will be in SF this Friday to talk about his new book, Copaganda. Check it out!

“How did nearly every major (and not so major outlet) miss this sinister movement slithering out of San Francisco and Silicon Valley?”

While right wing techbro Garry Tan (the Musk sycophant who called for the death of SF elected officials) has a complete meltdown on the bad site, now is a great time to support and donate to the grassroots organizations he and his fellow right wing tech bros attack. Links below.

Imagine being so mad about losing an election that you claim the people you’re losing to are doing exactly what you’re doing.
