This morning, I took a short hike at Dunning-Read Nature Area. It was a breezy and crisp (16 degrees) hike, and it was great to walk the trail in the snow. Here are a few animal prints and paths I discovered. #hiking #prairie #Chicago #winter #animaltracks

Happy Whipped Cream Wednesday! A fun, light read in a brutally cold week. I learned some new weather terms (gustnado?) and weather events (purple snow!). Pair it w/ hot coffee topped with plenty of the good stuff and you’re ready for whatever Mother Nature throws our way next. Cheers! #books #coffee

Happy Whipped Cream Wednesday! I thoroughly enjoyed these vignettes of everything from pecans to waffles; cherries to coconuts. Pair it with a big mug of hot chocolate with plenty of the good stuff and you’re ready for the ice storm about to hit the Midwest. #whippedcreamwednesday #books #naturegirl

One of the best things you can do right now is read books. Buy them. Borrow them from the library. Gift them. Read history. Read fiction. Read science writing. Read anything that shows you the world is bigger than what fascists say it is. Read to remember why your resistance matters. 📚💙

Engelmann oak (Quercus engelmannii) at the Huntington Botanical Gardens: magnificent, iconic, beloved species, native of S CA, progeny of a Mexican white oak, hybridizing with CA scrub white oaks and possibly owing its success in part to their adapted genes, thriving in a fire-scarred landscape.
