Birds nesting in ashtrays is going global! Scene 1: Mildenhall Town FC; Scene 2: somewhere in the Netherlands (forwarded to me by husband)

Sitting here thinking through the important questions of the day: Does that rabbit forget he has ears when staring at us from behind that log pile, which he thinks hides him Do the marks a badger leave have to look like those of a velociraptor What time shall we go to the pub

Boy went on a school trip for half term. To south of France. On a coach. Among other things... - missed the ferry - coach broke down - crossed the same bridge 3 times in 30 min - missed the ferry - drivers ran out of time at Thurrock and stopped Thus boy spent 57 hours on a coach there and back 😬

Mass spec!

This is a beautiful, moving, thought-provoking, incredible article. It's made me pause for thought in so many ways about so many things.

It has just taken my son 32 hours on a coach to reach the south of France. School trips eh? (This did include the coach breaking down, French police closing a lane of the motorway, a Volvo specialist mechanic being found, amongst other drama).

@silverpebble2.bsky.social I think Steve now has competition from Bert for title of "my favourite blackbird on social media"

Fermi is a standoffish and supercilious cat. So, a cat.

@silverpebble2.bsky.social I think we might need an outing... Just look at all that cow parsley 😍

I really do wish the major parties would stop racing to out-racist the racists. Offer a vision and policies that aren't just mimicking this shit-weasel's anti immigration, little Englander, far right vomit.

Shady spot for the lily of the valley transplanted from my childhood home ❀️

Life as a grassroots coach... One of your players has outgrown his boots and is in pain so you lend him your boots for the game. And he scored with them on πŸ’ͺ

I've always wanted to have alliums in my garden. Aged 50, and prompted by @silverpebble2.bsky.social telling me I can buy plants for myself if I want, I planted allium bulbs this year. First one is almost out 😍

A single ion arriving in our ion detection system. One ion. Been doing this for 28 years and it's still awesome.

@silverpebble2.bsky.social here's a lovely arrangement to soothe your synapses

A beautiful day yesterday at RSPB Fowlmere. Heard my first cuckoo of spring, saw my first swallow of the year and spent a while watching a gorgeous marsh harrier at closer range than I've ever had. Shame it's raining today...

It was a relief to see they'd dropped the speed limit on Wrynose to 30mph while there were roadworks πŸ˜†

It's important to detect any free running explosives.

An astronomy professor colleague of mine once relayed trying to explain to his students why it was important that they actually write their class reports themselves. β€œThe point is not to teach ME about neutron stars,” he said.

Staring at Monday like that'll stop it... #MondayMotivation

Home again, with a decent internet connection so can start posting photos again 😊

The nice man repairing the dry stone wall outside the cottage brought his rescued Harris Hawk to work with him today 😍

Herdwick. The finest of sheep. And Dow Crags are pretty good too.

I can't even...

Herdwick United - two at the back, three in midfield and one up front

Be more Bearded Tit...jump into the week! #MondayMotivation

When you think grassroots football can't shock you any more... an opposition player bit one of our players on the leg (adults not children, though you wouldn't know it). The game's gone Gary, the game's gone.

There are few things as nerve jangling as lighting the blue touch paper of a "more in sorrow than in anger" email to a governing body and then twitching every time my phone pings and.... It's not a reply.

Right now male Lapwing are putting in a huge effort to impress the ladies and to secure the best nesting territories. This one wins "best crest award for 2025" Sadly, they have gone from most of Sussex and are now Red Listed in the UK. @sussexornitholo.bsky.social @sussexwildlife.bsky.social

This one will always make me laugh...

Apparently a player saying to a referee at a youth football match "How much are they paying you? You're f***ing blind, you dumb c**t" doesn't warrant a misconduct charge. Any professional players want to chip in about how good an example they set every Saturday when they yell and scream at the ref?

I find other human beings endlessly confusing. People who I thought were friends who ignore me or stab me in the back. People who I didn't think even knew who I was who are generous, kind and thoughtful. How am I supposed to navigate my way through this randomness?

Who? Me?

This is not what a knee normally looks like
