I'm looking to hire a post-doc to work on tropical wetland #methane modelling. If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, get in touch. Happy to have an informal chat before applications :-) Closing date 4th May. jobs.le.ac.uk/vacancies/11...

We are celebrating our centenary on Saturday 17th May this year. We're holding an open day on campus and we welcome all friends of the School to come and join us! You can reserve a place via this link: alumni-events.le.ac.uk/event11.html

The Einstein Probe, using the X-ray WXT instrument that University of Leicester helped to build, has discovered a puzzling burst of X-rays, with a "soft" (lower energy) X-ray detection of an ancient explosion. www.esa.int/Science_Expl...

Congratulations to our Prof Emma Bunce, who has been appointed a trustee of Royal Museums Greenwich, in the year of its 350th anniversary le.ac.uk/news/2025/ja...

BepiColombo, carrying an instrument designed and built by University of Leicester scientists, has completed its final flyby of Mercury. Its orbiters will start circling the planet next year! le.ac.uk/news/2025/ja...

Happy 20th, Swift! Swift has done so much for helping us to monitor varying X-ray sources - I use it regularly to keep tabs on ultraluminous X-ray sources (in fact, it took a glance at one of them for me just yesterday). Thank you, Swift team! 🔭🧪

🧪🔭 Reskeeting for the feeds 🔭🧪 💥Gamma-ray bursts are the most extreme explosive events in the universe, caused when a massive star implodes or two neutron stars merge. Swift is designed to rapidly point itself in the direction of possible gamma-ray bursts💥

We're marking 20 years of groundbreaking cosmic exploration with the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory that has "transformed how we study gamma-ray bursts." Our team developed technology for it’s X-ray telescope and leads the UK’s data analysis efforts. le.ac.uk/news/2024/no...

From next year we're offering two new undergraduate Physics degrees. One is "Physics with Climate Science" le.ac.uk/courses/phys... offered as BSc or MPhys We host the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) and students will combine core physics with learning from specialist climate experts 🧪
