Avoid doom-scrolling with my simple, current life plan: 1) agree to train again as a cricket coach (for your son's team) 2) commit every weekend to the course 3) spend every free moment watching practice session videos on the ECB Coach app when you pick your phone up

Fresh out the CCC oven – the Seventh Carbon Budget sets out a new trajectory for heat pumps. The new Balanced Pathway pushes back heat pump installations into the 30s – more realistic given current progress, but still ambitious.

Yay! These awesome creatures do millions of pounds worth of free improvements. No brainer. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

A great, quick summary of ##NetZeroHeat

The French Connection and Unforgiven are two of my all time films, mainly because of Gene's performances. RIP

NEW: Official advisers CCC say UK shld cut emissions 87% by 2040 ⚖️Net cost of net-zero 73% less than thought 💷Total cost to 2050 = £108bn (~£4bn/yr, 0.2% GDP) 🏡🚗H’hold energy/fuel bills to fall £1,400 🔌Electrification is key THREAD + charts www.carbonbrief.org/... 1/10

The UK’s Seventh Carbon Budget level should be set at 535 MtCO2e, an 87% reduction against 1990 levels. This country has a prosperous and secure future ahead. The fossil fuel age is over – it’s time to electrify the United Kingdom. www.theccc.org.uk/2025/02/26/e...

📣 BREAKING: The UK Climate Change Committee now says there’s no role for hydrogen in building heating. That’s study #61 on my list showing little to no role for hydrogen in heating—up from 54 in my meta-review from Dec 2023: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

UK Climate Change Committee's 7th carbon budget: hydrogen will "play a small but important role, particularly in industrial sectors... however, we see no role in buildings heating and only a very niche, if any, role in surface transport." #HydrogenLadder wins. www.theccc.org.uk/publication/...

Sunny Salford for today’s #igppENERGY event as @geoffmackey.bsky.social kicks us off.

Forecast lied. #touchrugby

Do I get a prize?

Only now getting in to Bad Boys and hell its good. Huge laughs and heartbreaks. Jon Pointing is one superb actor. Quality TV.

Coached the first nets of the year for under 11s. Great bunch and enjoyed it. I have a lot of work to keep them organised and progressing!

Lost but have to be happy with how we played. #Wales

Went to a grunge covers gig last night, and of the songs they played, there were more from singers who are now dead than not 😕

@paysan.bsky.social my fav Bargain Booze place was an answer on House of Games just now...

What a list!!

Thankfully, world leaders are all over this crisis.... oh. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

This was one of the easiest 1000 piece jigsaws I've ever done, maybe because of the topic. The child in me recognises the priorities of the child in the designer, however.

Join us to learn more about the fascinating research on dinosaur footprints that tell us how they lived. @peterfalkingham.com from @ljmuofficial.bsky.social will be joining us in March. Come along from 7:00pm, talk starts at 7:30pm

THE NUMBERS ARE IN! It’s been a full year since @skillbuilderuk challenged us with a heat pump system that may have proved they don’t work in UK housing stock A typical UK property that was nearly 150 years old with uninsulated solid brick walls and a heat pump that cost a 2 x more than the boiler

Jon Davis cartoon in the Guardian on "how the UK government is tackling the climate crisis" Or any government, for that matter... www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Blood service have cancelled two appointments to donate now. Do I persist in trying to give my blood?

Can I legit decline a request for a meeting that is stated as being under "Chatham House Rules" on the basis that there is only one rule? It is Chatham House Rule people! #pedant

A vaccine that prevents cancer: ‘Scientists say the HPV vaccine works so well that this type of cancer could be eradicated in the near future.’ Over 99% of cervical cancers are caused by this virus—so preventing the infection prevents the cancer. Amazing news! www.bbc.com/news/article...

Was reminded of this ultimate Venn today.

Hosting a workshop on district heating today at @ukri.org that will shape the UK portion of the IEA District Heating and Cooling R&D programme. #NetZeroHeat

Spending my Sunday afternoon travelling for work. Weekend trains are not fun.

Made my own salmon en croute and I'm rather pleased with them.

This bust of Prince Phillip is in the RSA. I think it looks a lot like Matt Smith playing PP even though it was made long before The Crown.

This is important — closing Central #Madrid to cars over holidays resulted in a 9.5% boost in retail spending on its main shopping street: STUDY. There was also a 71% drop in air pollution. Via @carltonreid.com in @forbes.com. #citymakingmath #citiesforpeople www.forbes.com/sites/carlto...

Fabulous afternoon at RSA (where I’m a Fellow) discussing how we move to a regenerative future with loads of old (and incredible) faces.

I've been a fan of @philadelphiaeagles.bsky.social for 36 years now and ridden all the highs and lows. This article helps explain why I love this current team so much, besides the Superbowl beat down. Humanity. www.theguardian.com/sport/2025/f...

I love dragging myself out of bed for an early train that is then late.

Got compared to Antoine Dupont tonight. #meneither #touchrugby
