Two of my favorites, Valley Gartersnake and California Kingsnake. The photo of the kingsnake was taken at night. I was out for a hike looking for owls at the edge of a woodland/annual grassland and almost stepped on him. #nature #NaturePhotography #herps #snakes

My last photo of the day gives a little love to lizards. Another photo from the Sierra Nevada foothills. I was investigating an old miners cabin when I came across this southern alligator lizard out for a walk. I’ve seen many over the years but not one so green. #WorldWildlifeDay #NaturePhotography

Thinking of wildlife today. I took this in the Sierra Nevada foothills (California) on a day when the temperature was 112 degrees F., 3% relative humidity, on the edge of Blue Oak/Gray Pine woodland. This bobcat was looking up at a passing turkey vulture. #Nature #WorldWildlifeDay #NaturePhotography

Protect all wildlife! On this day of celebration please consider those that share this earth with us. Sumatran Tiger, Pacific Chorus Frog, Caribou (Denali National Park, support our Parks!), Dall Sheep (Denali National Park, support National Park staff!) #WorldWildlifeDay #NaturePhotography

Maybe Vance needs to do a little reading

California red-legged frog in California bay tree. I took this photo a couple of years ago in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. Just walking by, looked down and there she was. Went back and found many more moving from breeding pond to forest cover. #NaturePhotography #herps #conservation

Nobody is covering the devastation to public lands and the West's communities better than @sfgatedotcom.bsky.social.

The Lick Refractor telescope, 57 feet long, 4 feet wide, weight 25,000 pounds built in the late 1800s. My granddaughter took this photo. Science is strong with this one.

Visited Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton, CA yesterday. Introduced my granddaughter to the Lick Refractor telescope. Beautiful sky above the large dome of the observatory building. #astronomy #photography #family

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

The National Park Service fired many of its park rangers as part of a reduction in the federal work force. Some rangers decided it was worth the risk to speak out online about the cuts and share their love of the Park Service. “It’s scary, but it was the right thing to do.”

Last year, we reported on creative ways people are making a difference for the environment in their local communities in a six-part newsletter called "Tiny Nature Triumphs." Here’s a roundup of the stories we shared:

President's Day 2025 protest of actions by the current federal administration. I was there in Ashland, Oregon along with many others in the community. #Oregon #PNW #President'sDayProtest

Today is day 7 of The Wildlife Trust’s #HopeWeek and as well as watching their live event ‘Hope is in Our Nature’ I’ve made this video about why I’m hopeful and want to be optimistic about nature. Hope you enjoy watching! youtu.be/phI-cvNY8Ac

With Valentine’s Day coming up tomorrow I thought I would post a little Newt love. I took this photo a few years ago while I was conducting surveys for California Newts in Coyote Creek, Santa Clara County, California. #nature #herps, #wildlifephotography #NaturePhotography

What a lovely interview with our youngest wildlife monitoring volunteer Henry, Junior Wildlife Ambassador for @wildlifebcn.bsky.social. So many incredible wildlife experiences already, and so passionate about nature, what an inspiration. www.theroamerstrail.com/story/inspir...

Going back to the fall of 2024 for a beautiful sunset over Lake Abert in eastern Oregon. Wonderful example of the basin and range landscape with lots of geology and wildlife to see. #Oregon #conservation #nature #water #NaturePhotography

Read this now. This is an excellent summary of what we face from the tech bros. Many of the leaders of this group lack the emotion known as empathy.

Shout out to Southern Oregon University women's basketball. One of 3 schools in NAIA with no losses and still adding to their program record in consecutive wins. #SOU #PNW #Oregon

This is what we are fighting in Maryland: 70 MILES of greenfield electric transmission lines to power data centers in VA. And every ratepayer in 13 states will see increased rates to pay for it, instead of making the huge corporations pay for their own infrastructure. #StopMPRP /1

After several days of snow the sun was out in Ashland OR yesterday. The amount of snow has made travel in southern Oregon very messy at times. #Oregon #PNW #Photography #NaturePhotography
