not sure if both planes were aware of each other. That will have to come out of the investigation. The helicopter is normally dark, no lights other than navigation lights, while the Airliner carries its landing lights and should have been very visible frontal, but not necessarily from the side.

DCA crash… Update .. knowing the air traffic situation well as I fly there often.. the helicopter is on a low level, below 400 ft, following the east side of the river. It appears the PSA CRJ700 was maneuvering to setup for landing on runway 33, which is done regularly.

DCA crash… looks like a Blackhawk helicopter flew into a American Airlines plane on arrival to the airport.. This is a quickly becoming a recovery effort.. that water is cold… and in the dark, it will be hard to rescue anybody.. My thoughts are with all those involved….
