it's frustrating to me when people say they're making art inspired by ghibli or lynch or whomever. i understand the marketing utility but sometimes it feels like we get these shallow aesthetic takes on these materials because people aren't drawing from their firsthand experiences, just other media

Incredible new book マンガの原理 from Kadokawa. Aki Irie (Go with the Clouds), Kaoru Mori (Emma) and editor Oba Wataru discuss every aspect of creating manga. From dialogue length to using speed lines properly to fingernails, noses and why artists don't draw corpses. Hope it gets translated one day!

Enter this: a repository of open-access, AI-free images of wild & exotic taxa. Artists creating *without AI* have blanket permission for derivative/transformative use.

Another hot tip for saving money: You can refill your Micron (or similar) pens when they dry up. There are several YouTube videos, but basically pop the end off, shake out the sponge-tube, drip whatever ink you like into the sponge slowly until it's wet through, then re-assemble. Voila! Like new!
