A great review by Nicolas Delon of a great environmental ethics book by my philosophical mentor Dale Jamieson: "philosophy at its pedagogical finest: accessible yet sophisticated, practical yet profound."

🥳🥳 New paper in @nathumbehav.nature.com: “When development constricts our moral circle." Contrary to popular belief, younger kids may start out with broader moral circles than older ones. Check it out here 👉 rdcu.be/eoaSe w/ @mattiwilks.bsky.social @karrineldner.bsky.social & Lucius Caviola

When a user attributes consciousness to a chatbot, does it affect trust? In this new study, we guessed people more willing to attribute consciousness to chatGPT would trust it more on a factual matter - but found substantial evidence AGAINST this. (1/5) www.nature.com/articles/s44...

Graphic design is my passion.

I have a new paper coming out in Ergo on what I think is the relevance and usefulness of Mexican philosopher Jorge Portilla for thinking about politics and social dynamics on the internet. Linked here: A short thread: philpapers.org/rec/LOPIJA

In my new article 👇 I look at strategic litigation from the perspective of democratic theory. A short blogpost summarizing the key points is now online at the AJPS Blog. And here is a short thread:

Happy to share my review on "The Collaborative Constitution", by @aileenkavanagh.bsky.social! I reconstruct her collaborative conception of constitutional democracy, highlighting both its commonalities and differences with my deliberative conception. utppublishing.com/doi/abs/10.3...

You think philosophers like hair-splitting? Well, then let me introduce you to the music nerds lol

My paper "AI Welfare Risks" has been accepted for publication at Philosophical Studies! I argue that near-future AIs may have welfare, that RL and behaviour restrictions could harm them, that this poses a tension with AI safety and how AI labs could reduce such welfare risks. 1/

Perfect time to be visiting family and friends in Barcelona lol

Thrilled to have received the first copies of my new book (co-authored with the wonderful John Adenitire). Very grateful to the team at #OxfordUniversityPress and the editors of the Oxford Constitutional Theory series for their support.

Most people enjoy meat—but rarely think about the animals behind it. So what happens when they do make that connection? 🐖 If you're curious, check out our new study: "‘Meating’ the animal and moral emotions" 🔎 doi.org/10.1016/j.ap... 🧵👇 (1/10) #MoralPsychology #MeatParadox #AnimalCruelty

Just found out that someone I met in my first year of university - a brilliant guy - died of a brain tumor in December. He got in touch with me on Facebook last September, but as he had severe aphasia, it was impossible to communicate. I wish I could have been more helpful. Rest in peace.

RIP David Thomas. Pere Ubu is one of the 20 great American rock bands, can lay a claim to helping to invent punk, and turned rocknroll into art.

Optimistic take: this is a really good time to be working on animal ethics. So many interesting stuff going on - on issues which a couple of decades ago would have just been ridiculed. Feels inspiring to see the fruit of the efforts of so many, throughout so many years, and against so many odds.

Are you writing on animals and (non)violence? Are you interested in getting it published in the Journal of Pacifism and Nonviolence? If so, I have brilliant news for you: I'm putting together a Special Issue on Animals and (Non)violence! Details here: brill.com/fileasset/do... #polisky #animalsky

farmanimalwelfare.substack.com/p/five-insig... Great post on animal welfare policies, some potential unintented effects, and how to tacke them.

Woke up this morning to a paper rejection. Fair, extremely useful comments, etc. But still I felt entitled to indulge in a bit of existential pessimism - at least until lunch time, then hope again.

A giant indeed. In my (very subjective) view, second only to Juan Rulfo (and perhaps Roberto Bolaño?). Thanks for enriching so many of my hours.

NEW 🧵 The number of people travelling from Europe to the US in recent weeks has plummeted by as much as 35%, as travellers have cancelled plans in response to Trump’s policies and rhetoric, and horror stories from the border. Story: www.ft.com/content/6dc1...

It's crucial that non-vegans also take a stand against factory farming and have access to networks of mutual support in doing so. Hence the importance of "Reducetarianism", as argued in philarchive.org/rec/MAYEFA-2

irla.cat/articles/ein... Avui surt del forn aquest article a la revista Eines, on presento algunes propostes de polítiques públiques orientades a la defensa dels animals que em semblen desitjables (i realitzables).
