Interesting story this morning about an IT manager going through a hiring process and realized midway through he was interviewing an AI. He was shocked. But why? If orgs are going to use AI to screen and interview candidates, can't be surprised when people use it to get hired. #recruitment

Hiring to scale? WorkSpan's VP of People advises, hire slower to go faster. #startups #saas #recruiting peoplemanagingpeople.com/articles/eri...

Reaction without reading it? Cause people don't trust each other.... okay I'll read it.

If you spend much time on #LinkedIn, you've seen a ton of self indulgent nonsense and AI generated slop on your feed. If you're #recruiting for an open role, sifting through all that can be a pain. So I asked around, is LinkedIn still useful for recruiters? peoplemanagingpeople.com/articles/is-...

If you were laid off in the last year or two, I have a question. Did you see it coming? If so, what were the signs you noticed? To be clear, I'm not talking about performance based dismissals. I mean your company went through a reduction in force, or changed directions and cut teams, etc. #layoffs

💯I'm literally a better person when I get out consistently.

No no. Just because you can't work from home cause all you and your country club buddies would do is play golf all day, doesn't mean the rest of us are doing this. We've got bills to pay and mouths to feed and have to show results or we get let go. #remotework

I can see why some people think Nascar and hockey would be the most right wing coded sports. But let's place a bit of weight on cultural relevance cause it does matter. With that in mind, the NFL has long been a right wing tool for spreading nationalism. From paid patriotism to crushing Kaepernik

The Suburban American dream. What a load of BS. Cookie cutter strip malls and developments and HOA fees til we die? Pass. I've been hearing this crap since they were going around the country telling old people Obama was going to make them live in a high rises with no elevator.

Curious from people in the know. What tech companies actually did #DEI well? In my time covering #HR and hyperfocusing on what was going on in DEI, I've rarely seen #tech companies who are transparent on this, but maybe I'm wrong or maybe there are some good examples?

Question for all you recruiters out there. How useful do you find LinkedIn as a recruiting tool? How would you rate its ability to help you identify candidates? What about its usefulness in your pre-screening processes? Has AI changed the way you're viewing profiles? #recruiting #hiring

Looking for examples of ridiculous job requirements in a job ad that you've seen. Could be over the top (i.e. 20 years experience), common sense (the ability to listen), or just nonsense (problem solving wizard). Share with me. #humanresources #recruiting #hiring #jobseeker #LinkedIn

Let's be clear. Doing this, changing school curriculums to peddle lies and minimize atrocities we're meant to forever learn from is how they go about rewriting history and how we inevitably repeat it. Grim. #DEI www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...

Why? Why not just have people interview with a guy dressed in the alien costume from Signs? What are we doing? Can we at least treat each other like human beings by BEING human beings? #recruiting

Is this their idea of small government and free markets?

The highest compliment from someone who disagrees with you is not “You were right.” It’s “You made me think.” Good arguments help us recognize complexity where we once saw simplicity. The ultimate purpose of debate is not to produce consensus. It’s to promote critical thinking.

Anything that flies in the face of the narratives they've crafted, be it data, facts, anecdotal evidence, human intelligence, reality.... they're not going to pay it any mind.

After the big show they put on with the commitment to investing $2 billion in Black owned businesses and diversifying their supply chain, the flashy booths at Essence Fest... Comical. #DEI

And this is what they want to protect. Mediocrity is fine. The man must be served. #promotions

CC: Americans

This isn't a football game. People don't go in to job interviews with the score 0-0 against all other candidates. Life is complicated. And like ice skating judges aren't free of bias, neither is a hiring team. Meritocracy only exists in environments where it is contrived, not reality.

The Great American Brain Drain it will be called.

“The Federal Hiring Plan shall provide specific best practices for the human resources function in each agency, which each agency head shall implement, with advice and recommendations as appropriate from DOGE,”... aka "commit to a HARDCORE work environment or leave." #recruitment

More and more parallels every day. If you're not a history buff, fine. If you understand the basics, you should be able to see it without a conversation about the Ukraine and the Sudetenland or hyper normalization that was happening in the 70s and 80s Soviet Union.

Here's the thing about Zuck's "low performers" purge. I write this as someone who made all the way to the end of Meta's extensive hiring process a few years ago. It was by far the toughest interview I've ever done and I made it further than probably 95% of people #recruitment A short thread... 🧵

Journalism is dead. The title of an editor will be misleading where it still exists, but mostly, editorial oversight will breath its final breaths in this in favor of personality, expediency, speed to market and recklessness. Things are just going to get dumber. #media #hiring

Rooted in a core belief that they are entitled to opportunity and growth. Call it what it is, privilege, and they'll have a hissy fit. The same people will talk endlessly about #meritocracy without any evidence that it exists while behaving in ways that underline the fact it doesn't.

It's getting harder to job search the old fashioned way. Building an adequate network is going to be the way home for more and more people in the future. #Recruiting

As an American wrapping his head around this, help me out here if you can. Sounds a bit like 1099s which can work for some people, and exploitive zero hour contracts kind of sound like the equivalent of employee misclassification in this country. Am I oversimplifying or missing the bigger picture?

New dawn. More like rolling back the years. Fewer environmental regulations, an emboldened Wall Street... now add a tech sector with no guardrails as it pushes its latest creation, designed to be smarter than humans. What could go wrong?

@maxread.info made a really good point that part of this anti-woke BS in tech firms is the mistaken belief that capital is now more powerful than labor and tech firms can try to clamp down on worker activism. I'm not sure that's the case as AI won't really replace good developers for a long time.

There is a moment coming where the market has to make a decision on what it's willing to support. Will you buy goods from companies who don't value humans? Will you support corporations that maximize profits for a few by eliminating the jobs of many? This was always what this tech is built for.

Is this the smartest business plan. Why not just increase human productivity with AI and do more profit generating work? Cause decreasing the people is most likely a way to do the same amount, just with less labor cost. #AI #HR

Making the wildfires in California into a discussion about #DEI shows how low the level of discourse in this country is and how far we are from even trying to imagine solutions to issues that matter the most, like the fact that our cities are burning.

The fact it was brought up in the first place is the bigger problem. Once it's in the air, anyone can reply to it and the org should basically expect it. That's why you need clear policies about discussing it in the workplace. Given it's their first days, should be used as an example and move on.

This implies a social responsibility, which many orgs no longer feel any sense of, particularly with no legislative enforcement anywhere. That old saying "businesses and money exist only in our imagination and to serve us. Why are we sacrificing our lives in service of them?" feels on point as ever

Good excuse for being late on the first day of a return to office order though.

Anyone remember Twitter chats? Like a big group session at a set time and day? Would love to see that idea come back, they used to be a fun/interesting way to see discussions take shape. Would be great to have one about #HR, #recruiting, #management issues.
