Hey, just a quiet reminder: it’s not true that people get more conservative as they age. *Populations* get more conservative as they age because poor and marginalized people die sooner. nymag.com/intelligence...

I'm so used to bar bathrooms with cutesy signs that I had to stop here and ask myself if I was a Mario or a Wario

Beethoven pioneered bone conduction as a method of hearing after becoming deaf. He bit into a piece of metal attached to his piano. If you use swimmers’ headphones, thank Beethoven.

Good way to see the current tariffs, as of literally today, is no tariffs on high value add manufactured goods marketed to middle and upper middle classes. Massive tariffs for cheap consumer items which amount to the biggest economic privilege of working class/middle class life in US.

Men will literally race their sperm before going to therapy.

Is there any link between the Trump admin’s “deal” with El Salvador and Bukele’s plan for a “Bitcoin City,” which was going to be scaled back in order to receive loans from the IMF — and Trump admin’s plans to use gold reserves to buy Bitcoin? Or all just coincidence theweek.com/business/eco...

Trump is also saying that the once the US has rounded up individuals, with minimal or zero due process, on whatever pretext they choose, they can send them out of the US to face torture, death, life imprisonment, slave labor or other fates that are unconstitutional or illegal in the US.

One President wildly exceeded his authority by forgiving some student loans; a different President barely scratched the surface of his authority by disappearing anyone he pleases without trial to a foreign gulag. Constitutional law is a serious intellectual enterprise.

"He lies like someone who was there." —Russian saying, from The Last Tsar, The Life and Death of Nicholas II, by Edvard Radzinsky

Remember when Biden tried to forgive some student loans based on a plausible statutory argument and people freaked out and thought it was dictatorship?

"Even worse, when you Google one of these slop-squatted package names, you’ll often get an AI-generated summary from Google itself confidently praising the package, saying it’s useful, stable, well-maintained. But it’s just parroting the package’s own README, no skepticism, no context." Omfg

One of the doctors RFK claimed was doing “heroic” work “curing” kids of measles . . . a) is treating kids with a steroid, which is making them sicker b) said the idea came from god in a dream c) boasted about treating kids *while he himself had the measles* www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcn...

Homeless workers now have to submit *proof of employment* to be allowed to sleep in their cars in one of the richest counties in the U.S. Welcome to America: people shivering overnight in subzero temperatures, steps from luxury ski resorts, for the privilege of keeping the local economy booming.

president b. i can’t.

imagine being a foreign intelligence agent who's spent decades trying to undermine the united states then they just start doing it to themselves with zero prompting and doing it WAY better than you I'd just disappear into my mask forever out of embarrassment

The agreement says that El Salvador will keep the prisoners for one year pending U.S. government determination of what to do with them at that point. That means there is a way to retrieve them.

omg something i never understood as a kid growing up in queens was that broadway shows don’t just advertise during daytime programming anywhere else???

1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but 2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but 3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So 4. Now the LLM code points to malware.

This is bullshit—of course the US could apply diplomatic pressure to have him returned—but if it is allowed to stand, the executive branch has the power to disappear people permanently without any sort of due process. That in turn will be the end of all other constitutionally guaranteed rights.
