Currently reading: How To Stand Up to a Dictator by Maria Ressa

Offloading responsibility for the climate crisis onto individuals as consumers does fuck all to move the needle, and shifts the blame away from actual polluters - corporations, shipping, governments - while allowing them to continue to boil us all alive.

🔥 burning thru 🔥

would be kind of funny to do an aesthetic video about like stress meltdowns and being increasingly goblin like

Judging by my mentions, it is apparently time for a reminder: If you hit REPLY, you are talking TO the person who posted the thing you replied to If you hit QUOTE POST, you are talking to the people who follow you If you want people to see it, you want QUOTE POST.

Proud to be one of the 350 rabbis signing this statement — an ad in the NYT today and a declaration of our values. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025... For more—and to sign— go to saynotoethniccleansing.org

"8 Things You Can Do To Stop ICE" is now up, welcome to be shared, and downloaded. Thank you for your patience! youtu.be/6TdkoMMPl7U?...

Most important "related nonfiction" I ever edited is the Publishing Taught Me antho with enthralling essays by @dianapho.bsky.social @kanishkt.bsky.social @deuceofgears.bsky.social et al. Should win a Hugo! Brilliant co-editing from @witchywonderer.bsky.social and @somtoihezue.bsky.social too.

The art of the Renaissance still has a complete and unshakable grip on Westerners. People really love and want to see the old style Renaissance paintings. So why did they go away? Capitalism.

The unfortunate reality is it takes a fascist a few seconds to lie or break the rules, but it takes honest people several orders of magnitude longer to disprove that lie or fight back against rule breaking within the system. I'm glad the work is being done right. It SHOULD help, and I hope it does.

What a surreal moment to be doing basic early career stuff.

The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has documented at least 110 Palestinians killed by the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip since the implementation of the ceasefire agreement last month. 🔴 LIVE updates: aje.io/078jbu

Sometimes you gotta eat a whole bok choy.

The Nazis burned and destroyed so much history, and it's our duty and obligation to ensure to the best of our ability that it does not happen again.

Word of the Day is one I keep posting at the end of the year, hoping its time will come. ‘Respair’, from the 16th century, is fresh hope, and a recovery from despair. Here’s to a few drops of respair in 2025.

Okay, I have figured out the solution to "I love two portrayals of Hermes with the bright love of true obsession." We do a HADESTOWN run where the whole cast plays two parts, and they trade on alternating nights. So Chris Sullivan plays Hermes/Hades, and @melanielabarrie.com plays Persephone/Hermes.

Turning to Seneca today for guidance, and I had forgotten how deeply I internalized his ethos in high school. Seeking wisdom in the face of knowledge… Knowing trauma doesn’t salve it, only compounds it. It takes wisdom to heal the spirit.

I just discovered there is a #GothicAdvent hashtag and feed on Bluesky! This warms my dark wintry heart. bsky.app/profile/did:...

Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins, Macmillan Publishers, Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster "throttle" access to e-books by selling them to libraries for either a limited time or a limited number of circulations — sometimes both.

A Charles Addams classic

Speaking of books that’ve flown COMPLETELY under everybody’s radar! M. M. Olivas’ debut Sundown in San Ojuela came out with Lanternfish Press less than a month ago and looks criminally good to only have two Amazon reviews??? Go show this book some love y’all. Sundown in San Ojuela a.co/d/cFMKhtT

"When we talk about the political power of art, it arises from the submerged economies of marginalized peoples creating and organizing their way to their liberation." Really interesting essay on cultural capital in the form of artistic prestige, and its uses.

It's wild how sophisticated the scams are getting. One YouTuber had his entire channel deleted and replaced with crypto livestreams because he clicked on a DocuSign link. www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9sX...

Announcing the launch of Transistance Press! A project born out of passion and resistance, committed to ensuring trans stories keep getting told, shared, and celebrated. No matter what.

I remember when you could just buy a computer program like Microsoft Word or Photoshop and just have it on your computer forever without having to pay monthly or yearly. What a time that was

You may know about Project Gutenberg, which is an online repository of older, public domain works where copyright has expired. Its offshoot, Project Gutenberg Self-Publishing, lets authors upload their own modern works while retaining all rights. 💙📚

I must not dunk. Dunk is the vibe-killer. Dunk is the little-discourse that brings trollish destruction.

I would like to see more work in the genre of literary essays written with care and as creative works in their own right, by contemporary working writers (including critics but also novelists &c.) about how they read books through other books and their own lives.

Everyone should be sharing this story about the Amnesty International report because yes many of us have long acknowledged that it’s a genocide but there are still people who need the validation of a report from an org like Amnesty to believe it’s true zeteo.com/p/amnesty-co...

The Comics Code Authority being spearheaded by a well-meaning progressive who tumbled into a Think Of The Children tarpit seems like an important thing for people to consider in conversations about media censorship

Perfect. No notes.

Writers: yes, you are still a "real" writer if you - have never published anything - have no readers - didn't write anything this month - didn't write anything this year - can't articulate words anymore - can only float and mournfully wail - were murdered ten years ago on this very spot

…I have a thing to say but things are nice here and I don’t want to kick the hornet’s nest. (“Buy banned books” does not just mean “classic, historically banned books,” it also means books coming out NOW that are being banned, censored and erased to silence trans people and people of color.)

So... I hate to disagree with Sir Pterry, but I think this advice was relevant when fantasy was less diverse. Read the new stuff. Read widely IN the genre, because it has breadth like never before. You can skip most of the old stuff. You probably HAVE read too much of that.

I finished the gecko finally, which is a display piece for vending events so I can grab some attention for my book, Geckos, Automata You can buy that here: a.co/d/2yUQP3m #amigurumi #crochet #gecko #indiebooks #books

Its so quintessentially Democrat to be seen purchasing a book about the evil they perpetuate, after losing an election in large part because of the evil, with barely enough time left before leaving power to read it and implement any change
