OFFICIAL RELEASE DAY for "The Quest for Annie Moore of Ellis Island"! 😊🗽 (only took 22 years 😏) All shares appreciated!

In 1911, Nesen Bader was held at Ellis Island to determine if he’d be a drain on US resources (“LPC”). If so, he’d be deported. Luckily, he got to stay & later had a child: Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Don’t shut immigrants out for not seeing the good they bring right away. #genealogy #genhour #immigration

I probably should start posting more here of my Dutch escapades. I thought I was going to be less busy this semester but I still have sooo much stuff to do!

For example, this is how I'll do new blog post releases now: My latest post 'Juggling Act' is out now. Read it on: Substack: danielloftus.substack.com/p/juggling-act My Blog Archive [WordPress]: danielmloftus.wordpress.com/2025/02/18/j... #Genealogy

Question for Irish genealogist and historians, I was just reading an account of my 3rd great grandma who was a survivor of the Famine and she believed in Fairies, I’m wondering how common was such a belief for people of her era, particularly those near Cork.

Would anyone know what language this is in? It’s not in Dutch! #Genealogy

How often do you find marriages between people with the same surname? (Particularly in rural areas) #Genealogy #OnePlaceStudy 1/2

9 January 1900 | Polish Jew Abraham Chaskel was born in Brzostek. A worker. In #Auschwitz from 15 May 1942. No. 35670 He died in the camp on 9 June 1942.

Slowly working on a detailed map of Dzwonowa, quite fun actually.

Bingo! @genealcymru.bsky.social Thanks for the Tip. Heres a map of my One-Place Study Dzwonowa #Genealogy #OnePlaceStudy

Worked on my ancestor Jozef Kłusek who died quite young and married old(ish).

Anyone know how I could stitch 4 images together? I have Galician Cadastral map of my OPS Dzwonowa that I’d like to have in one image. #Genealogy #OnePlaceStudy

On my way to America for the holidays. So plenty of time for genealogy!

Our #OnePlaceStudy blogging & social media prompts for Jan-May 2025 are in the latest issue of our journal Destinations. Along with June's they'll soon be available to all on our website. In the run-up to that we'll reveal them here. Jan 2025's prompt is #OnePlaceCohorts plus, optionally, #Born1819.

Not Genealogy related but it does help with doing Genealogy #GenHour

#SixGenerations, So much has changed 1st version! Since I made a template for @jahboeren.bsky.social and I may as well post a new version of mine. Not too different!

Coming soon, y'all!

Just finished putting in all the Pre-1800 records into my OPS tree, currently I have 391 people, which isn’t too bad! Only 200 years to go! #Genealogy #OnePlaceStudy

I just was putting in marriages for my #OnePlaceStudy and I realized I had misread a 13 for an 18 (its clear the priest tried to change it) But I actually found the girls baptism and she was 12 and 11 months when she was married to a 25 year old man. Speechless... Its so hard to imagine

So it's just Alaska and Wyoming (they always start with states with small populations so they can claim more quickly), but still cool to see Korean War era draft registration cards! #genealogy blog.fold3.com/korean-war-e...

I visited several bones chapels in Portugal. These curious and slightly disturbing chapels are built with bones from overcrowded cemeteries (some are said to be monks). They were supposed to offer a warning about the transience of life to those whose faith was faltering.

There are genetic genealogists working behind the scenes to identify victims of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. I am proud to say that I am one of those genetic genealogists. We have an incredible team! Remember his name #CLDaniel #TulsaOK #1921RaceMassacre #Veteran www.cnn.com/2024/11/17/u...

I’ve been struggling with is how to write about my research, most of it is centered around rural Galicia (Southern Poland), which can repetitive and un-detailed. Curious about ideas and how others deal with this topic (even if its not Eastern European) #Genealogy #History #OnePlaceWednesday

OK, here comes my attempt, modeled after Jeremy's, as I also have 100% Ashkenazi Jewish ethnic background. Thanks again @poloniagen.bsky.social and @jernealogy.bsky.social! (Alt text doesn't reproduce the chart, as it is worse than useless in this presentation in text format, see next post.) 1/7
