1/n Fania Fainer's heart 🧵 This booklet was made by Zlatka Pitluk (nee Snajderhauz) with materials found in the camp. She passed it on to eighteen other women imprisoned in Auschwitz. They wrote wishes and messages of hope in Polish, Hebrew, German and French.

1 January 1939 | A French Jewish boy, Leon Guterman, was born in Paris. He arrived at #Auschwitz on 20 August 1942 in a transport of 1,000 Jews deported from Drancy. After selection he was murdered in a gas chamber.

28 December 1907 | A Polish Jew, Gerson Ring, was born in Nowy Sącz. Shoemaker. In #Auschwitz from 12 December 1941. No 24333. He perished in the camp 6 days later, on 18 December 1941.

27 December 1938 | French Jewish boy, Samuel Banda, was born in Metz. He was deported to #Auschwitz from Drancy on 11 November 1942. He was murdered in a gas chamber after arrival selection.

During the German occupation the Dutch were not allowed to listen to the BBC and were forced to hand in radios. So many made their own wireless receivers that they then hid or camouflaged. This one was hidden in a soap container, made with parts stolen from the Phillips factory.

The Budy Massacre One night in early October 1942, German women prisoner functionaries battered 90 French Jewish women to death. 1/n The events of 81 years ago have never been fully explained. Many sources term it a mutiny.

Against all odds: Born in Mauthausen 1/n Eva Clarke was one of only three babies* born in Mauthausen concentration camp who survived the Holocaust. She was born on 29 April 1945, just a day after the Nazis destroyed the camp's gas chambers and less than a week before liberation.

16 December 1905 | A Polish Jew, Chaskiel Siegler, was born in Tarnów. An accountant. In Auschwitz from 29 December 1941. No. 25116 He perished in the camp on 19 March 1942.
