Finished the hardest book I’ve read in Japanese so far! This version has furigana over each kanji, which helped with the readings, but there were still many unknown vocabulary words I had to learn (plus the fantasy made up words used throughout for the world building). #japanesenovel

New blog post! I talk about the books I read last month and my Korean language learning progress. #monthlywrapup #librarianreads #languagelearning open.substack.com/pub/polyglot...

Trying out the Kobo! I plan to write a post to review it, specially for Japanese learners who may be considering switching over from the other popular reader. There are some pros and cons that may differ depending on what you want out of it. #kobo #japanesenovels

Ursula le Guin, on the accusation that fantasy is an escape from reality

Participated in a 24 hour Readathon (didn’t read that long of course) and finally finished this book! I bought it years ago and had started, but never got back to it until now. It has some good quotes about writing! 物語はお願いだ。”Stories are wishes.”

“I don’t need another notebook.” I repeated the words—a fruitless endeavor. As my fingers brushed over the soft leather cover, I recalled a tale about bees, keys, swords, and the starless sea. #notebook #bees

New blog post! I read 5 Japanese novels and listened to 2 books in English last month 😌🙌 polyglotperla.substack.com/p/january-wr...

A cozy, comforting, and reflective read that makes me want to open a bookstore. 😌😔 I want to read this in Korean one day! #librarianreads #koreanliterature #cozyreads

Finished 2 Japanese novels this week during the snow days/inclement weather! One was volume 2 of a high fantasy series I’ve been wanting to read for a long time. The second was a cozy mystery set in Kyoto, Japan. It’s also part of a series. #japaneselanguage #librarianreads

My first completed book of 2025! If you like world building, medieval mysticism, and biblically accurate angels, this may be the book for you. #librarianreads #bookrecs

Hello again! I haven’t been active here too much but I hope to change that. This month I’m hoping to finish the rough draft of my science fantasy novel. I’m currently halfway done. It’s inspired by the game, Persona 5, and Margaret Rogerson’s Vespertine meets The Witch King by Martha Wells. #wip

Attended my first in-person writer networking event last night at Brazos Bookstore! I was a bit nervous at first, but once I met some fellow writers who shared interesting aspects about their writing journey, the rest of the evening flew by fast!

2024 writing goals: write. ✍️

I haven’t been to the movie theater in years, but I finally saw Godzilla Minus One! I love a good kaiju fight, but the aspect of human guilt and survival explored in this movie’s writing was spectacular. If you prefer something more action packed, this film may not be for you.

I feel like I have to reprogram my brain when working on a short story after becoming used to working on novel length writing! There is always more I want to add, but like life, the limited word count is fleeting.

New fountain pen and ink! I was looking for a new brown ink this weekend. The store I went too was out of stock of my first choice and my second choice isn’t made anymore by Pilot 😅 I’m grown to prefer a Medium nib but this pen’s Medium-Fine nib will do when I need to write smaller or in Japanese.

I may have just made an indulgent purchase…but it’s Hispanic Heritage Month so I’ll consider it a treat to myself in celebration. Will share pictures later!

I don’t use my fountain pens as much as I’d like, excluding writing in my planner. I think writing some short stories in my many blank notebooks is easier to manage at the moment than an entire novel ☺️

Hello Bluesky people! I'm currently working on an adult science fantasy novel that I would have not written as far as I have if it weren't for my writing group fellows 😅 I hope my work soon meets the eyes of eager readers!
