The staff at Iran's National Museum in Tehran have sandbagged the exhibitions they cannot move. I just...

Hooray, dates for a Carnac region stone row! Fascinating excavation of a tomb, aligned standing stones & cooking pits at Le Plasker shows that the stone alignments were built piecemeal c.4680-4250 cal BC, and the tomb was built on the site of Mesolithic occupation: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Archaeologists excavating at a Neolithic pile-dwelling settlement at Lake Maliq, Albania 🏺 Waterlogging preserved wooden structures at the site and dendrochronology of them indicates it was one of the first farming settlements in Europe #Woodensday Learn more 🆓 doi.org/10.15184/aqy...

Yesterday @pottedhistory.bsky.social and I made another trip over to Inner Farne to take photos for me to use in my paintings. It was a very blustery day, birds flying sideways in the wind. So many puffins coming and going.Totally amazing!

Congratulations to Associate Professor Jessica Smyth &Associate Professor Dr Neil Carlin, and International colleagues, on their publication in Antiquity today, "The ‘king’ of Newgrange? A critical analysis of a Neolithic petrous fragment from the passage tomb chamber" www.ucd.ie/newsandopini...

Edge of the Cedars State Park and Museum: The museum here has one of the most extensive repositories of pottery and ceramics from the Pueblo period and earlier. Stonetracker has kindly posted several videos of his visit, view from the comments section of our page.

Beware: weaponised nostalgia is the new face of climate denial. Not 'the science is fake', but 'We had it bad in my day too - remember '76?'. It reassures, distracts – and delays the action we urgently need.

Its #AncientSiteSunday & since we've been posting on Orkney, seems about time for a thread on the Broch of Gurness 🧵👇

Brilliant news but.. How long before trump and the League of Republican Misogynists decide that Vera Rubin should have stayed in her kitchen and demand that the observatory be renamed? earthsky.org/space/vera-c...

You know those jobs about the place that "will only take ten minutes"? Graham / @pottedhistory.bsky.social and I have spent the most part of today putting up this window box! (BUT it's there to stay now)

🏺When we create replica pottery we try, as far as possible, to to use the same materials, methods and tools that the original makers would have used. Even when making the tools we try to use original tools. Experimental and experiential archaeology. youtu.be/ll0Auk_vDys?...

@martinlewis.moneysavingexpert.com Scam ad on Youtube!

Huge thanks to everyone who took the time to tell which of Mt puffin paintings they thought would make card/print. Choice A came out on top- so A it is!

Let's all be the rain on this motherfucker's parade. #NoKings #NoKingsDay

Yesterday at Henry M. Jackson Federal Building in Seattle barriers were built with scooters and bikes in front of the buildings garage exit. This comes as it was announced today that ICE will be deploying tactical teams to 5 cities in the US to assist in “mass deportations”

UPDATE: PBS will air the new 4th episode of ‘Pompeii: The New Dig’ on Wednesday 6th August. America, please forgive us Europeans who write dates day-month-year and not month-day-year…. You see the confusion? Oooops!

@pottedhistory.bsky.social - I'm thinking it may be time for another Sphinx! 😊

Kamala was f*cking right !!!!!

At the *hands* of looters, aye, but more importantly, at the *wallets* of buyers.

Crown Studio Gallery in Rothbury will be CLOSED until Friday 13th June. @pottedhistory.bsky.social and I have family visiting us. Happy days!!

So depressing. If there’s one scientific advance that everyone should be able to agree is brilliant surely it’s vaccinations that prevent awful, deadly, disabling illnesses!! Imagine explaining to past generations that we could protect our children but choose not to. Inexplicable.

6 years ago I took part in an excellent course at Berrycroft Hub, making Copper Age axes, as research for a novel. I'm pleased to say that my next novel, 'Coppersmith', is now in pre-publication. Not too much longer! #writing #copper

I have been fortunate enough to enter a very well known ceramic factory that nature has reclaimed. It was profoundly sad but oddly beautiful. I’m hoping to return and rescue some of the thousands of moulds left behind before time destroys all. #pottery #ceramics #industry #ruins #haunted

I'll never get over how the best line in all of noir – "I've got eight slugs in me. One's lead, and the rest are bourbon" – doesn't come from Raymond Chandler or Dashiell Hammett, but Calvin and Hobbes

Hard to pick favourites from the corpus of Pictish sculpture fragments at the Tarbat Discovery Centre in Portmahomack, but the Calf Stone is a strong contender, depicting various animals mundane and enigmatic, including a cow and bull fondly tending to their calf.
