I told my daughter that you could turn almost any noun into a verb, and now verbing nouns is her entire personality.

Are Sunday scaries when you notice the potatoes are growing too many teeth again and they're serrated this time? Is it when you plunge your arm into a barrel of dried beans only you don't actually own any beans, do you, and all the beans open their eyes and spread their wings?

Today I am a library cat, settled in a sunbeam on the wide staircase seats.

This might belong to #SmallPoemSunday

To slow down, not participate. To let heartways form in melting rivulets under snowbanks. To dive from the wide blue sky, skim waking grass for sustenance. To find a candle in a cavern at a shrine to uncertain deities. To carry back messages from the mandibles of beetles—unhurried, dismantling bark.

The singular pleasure of BBQing while there's still snow on the ground but the temperature is above freezing.

Okay, here's why I love Fanny Price (Mansfield Park): she's told all her life that she shouldn't trust her own judgment and her opinions/wishes don't matter, but she's the only character in the book who never wavers in her principles. I don't know if that was Austen's point, but it's what I love.

Oh, this is a sweet snack of an issue. 💖

Thinking about typewriters and pianos and disco balls. As one does. transactionswithbeauty.com/home/typewri...

Hey British followers, do people still use the word "shag"? I have been told that it's not a common word anymore, and I need to know its relevance for important #Romancelandia research purposes.

Oh, hello, little baby draft of a poem. How lovely to see you! 💖

Long ago, I considered becoming a nun, and I think perhaps in some ways, I ended up there regardless of the external appearance of my life. Sheltered and attentive. Profound devotion to the workings of the soul. Deep work that has a place in the ecosystem.

I'm on a doctor-ordered change of eating habits for the next 3 months. I'm not saying I won't get grumpy & miss specific foods, but for the moment, it feels like a welcome change that I needed external motivation for. Or maybe it just feels like one little thing in my control in this chaotic world.

More annoying than hold music: the recorded welcome/instructional message looping endlessly until someone gets to your call 😣

May you get an unexpected but delightfully pleasant surprise 🌷

shout out to all the parent writers. to all the projects started and then withered because a kid had a cold, or fell when you were jotting an idea down, or started a bath and jumped in still dressed. for the conferences and fellowships and sub windows missed. shout out to y’all who keep coming back.

It's open mic night and today's massive temperature swing seems to be freaking out my nervous system. So self-care will be water/herbal tea, hunkering down with comfort books, cozying up with my guitar, and pulling inward. Loves, I hope care touches you in deep and unexpected ways today.

I'm meditating on all of you and sending you peace and calm so you can focus your minds and do what needs doing.

I referred to my version of a chord as the "cheater version", and my guitar instructor gently corrected me with, "However you feel comfortable playing the chord is the right way for you." This is also a valuable lesson.

You know what? I like this picture.

I thought my day was going to go horribly awry, but I took time for a longer, more restorative yoga session, and I asked my guitar instructor if we could have an online lesson instead of in person. Little gentlenesses that made a big difference.

When will you, beautiful creature alive right now, find a better time to do the thing that you are made for, that you’re good at? Do you have a limitless reserve of time you can pack all that good stuff into and roll out like a red carpet at some later date? buttondown.com/EireneEleni/...

Bring me more tables, I’m not done flipping

I cleaned the common areas of my house this afternoon, and I do love these few moments before the people who live here start fucking it up again.

Miss Bennet is pretending she doesn't know her own name, and if she cannot see me, I do not exist and am not trying to get her out of "her bed" to put my guitar away.

Okay, so one of the things I had to do was make soup to freeze. I think Sophie will forgive me for putting her aside for this. (thanks, @absp.bsky.social, for the reminder that freezer soup is the greatest!)

I'm halfway through Howl's Moving Castle, and if I had nothing else to do today, I'd just sit myself down with a pot of tea and a plate of cheese & crackers and not move until I was done reading it. But I have other things to do today. Sigh.

I didn't realize how sad my office ceiling was making me until we got rid of it. I'm finding the bare joists much more pleasant than the old ceiling. (Oh, no skeletons. Gotta chat with the bone eater.)

The big family happening today is pulling down the ancient ceiling in my office. If we find zero skeletons up there, I'm going to have to figure out how the bone eater gets in and out from the shed.

My kid sat down in front of the fireplace and announced, "I'm going to watch the fire like a streamer." Now he's staring into the fire yelling "OH MY GOD THAT TWIG JUST CAUGHT FIRE ARE YOU SEEING THIS RIGHT NOW WHAAAAT"
