Microscopes in space people - what else can I say. Awesome working with @adwol.bsky.social Don’t fly without one.

Delighted that our paper is finally out at npj Microgravity! We built a microscope to work in 0g, on board a @esa.int parabolic flight - FlightScope - and imaged signal transduction in yeast. Supported by @ukspaceagency.bsky.social . doi.org/10.1038/s415...

Adventures in Microscopy: Lizard Skin Part 3! Observing the shed scales from a Carolina anole foot made me feel like I was studying a dragon! Tiny lizards can spark a powerful imagination when viewed under a Foldscope! #FearlessMicroscopy #ScienceIsFun #STEAM #MagnifyCuriosity #EduSky

This is a great way to use Foldscopes and microscopy for a creative writing prompt! #Teachers - how do you encourage student #creativity with science tools?

Federal research cuts impact local economies, and stall progress. Publish an opinion piece in your hometown paper on June 16th to SPREAD THE WORD about how scientific research contributes to the everyday health and wealth of the general public. #McClintockLetters blogs.cornell.edu/asap/events-...

Just returned back to land after an incredible expedition with Alex/Hannah/Enrico from lab - again in California Currents - joint with Ann Dekas lab. We tested a new carbon sequestration idea & mapped inhabitants of deep dark ocean & more. Filled with magical (read science) experiences. Thread soon.

Many school students get a chance to peer at miniature life through a microscope, but while growing up in a remote town @prakashlab.bsky.social wasn't able to. That didn't curb his curiosity. Now he makes frugal microscopes (some out paper!) to expand outreach. thebrilliant.com/2025/04/02/s...

Call to arms by @lisamjarvis.bsky.social for biopharma to mobilize in support of the engines that power them - federally supported biomedical research and drug evaluation

What an auspicious venue for an immersive biophysics of #cilia meeting... Which of course began with some obligatory foldscoping at the breakfast table @prakashlab.bsky.social @friedrich-group.bsky.social

My favorite NPR story blog - “Goats and Soda” sent a writer and photographer to a rural school in India; an early adopter of Foldscope. A wonderful photo story of kids “reading nature”. In this current challenging climate - the kids show us the way with joy and wonder. www.npr.org/sections/goa...

Fan girl moment to meet and network with @prakashlab.bsky.social who also kindly gifted a @teamfoldscope.bsky.social microscope, which I'm excited to use!! #biologists100

Inspired by the talk of Manu Prakash @prakashlab.bsky.social at #biologists100, I decided to build the #foldscope on my way home. Amazing example of ways in which we can make science (+the joys of observing nature) more accessible. Time to join the microcosmos community! @teamfoldscope.bsky.social

What do chicken retinas & Arctic brittle star communities have in common? Hyperuniformity—a hidden order in nature that balances chaos & structure for optimal function. Inspiring talk by @prakashlab.bsky.social at @biologists.bsky.social

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F. 18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it. We made this website to tell our story: 18f.org

The Trump administration terminates funding for polio, HIV, malaria and nutrition programs around the world. “People will die,” said Dr. Catherine Kyobutungi of the African Population and Health Research Center, “but we will never know, because even the programs to count the dead are cut.”

One of the people fired from NOAA today is the director of the Ocean Acidification Program. That program also leads the U.S. government's effort on marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR). The destruction of American science is incomprehensible.

We are speechless. 🌊 We lost so many from the #OceanAcidification #mCDR team and so many other #NOAA departments today.

All probationary federal employees at NOAA’s EMC that’s responsible for keeping all US weather model systems running have been fired with 1 hours notice. And that includes me and colleagues. We will not go quietly because we care about the NOAA mission to protect the public.

Here is a sign-on letter for individual scientists and other experts to speak out and protect NOAA. I signed it and I encourage you to sign it as well. secure.ucsusa.org/a/2025-prote... 🌎🧪🦑🐠

Climate change has never been clearer, and this is in part due to brilliant work by US climate scientists. Yet the Trump administration is trying to outlaw even the word 'climate'. The "leader of the free-world" is undermining that title in every possible way.

First “Ten Earth” Planktoscope network live stream - w/ Ethan Li in the lab where we are building continuous low-cost plankton monitoring. This is a test but enables us to continuously monitor fragile ecosystems at microbial resolution. Enjoy and tag what you see. m.youtube.com/watch?v=AGjg...

With blatant attack on science and global development - we as scientists have a few choices. Either we crawl in a corner or we forge ahead & keep executing based on our value system. Don’t have time to be depressed - communities need us most urgently now! kingcenter.stanford.edu/events/stude...
