Hate to speculate - it could be anything - but one explanation is the government folding

One of the wilder political things in recent history is that Project 2025 publicly released a 900 page document laying out their plans to roll back 100 years of human progress and then during the campaign Republicans just said "no we're not :)" and then they won and now they're doing it all.

"Hegseth is a clown." "What the hell is wrong with Nixon. Anyone he doesn't like is a clown." "Hegseth is a drunk." "Nixon is no better than a Democrat." "Hegseth is unprepared." "The Pentagon runs itself." "Hegseth is honey for spies." "Go to hell."

This miserable president has a pliable Congress and could make changes to the law but is instead just writing bullshit like “The Civil Rights Act no longer exists” on White House stationery and calling it policy

THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT IS THE LAW OF THE LAND AND A SUPERSTATUTE AND THE PRESIDENT CANNOT UNDO IT. sincerely, a constitutional law professor who also teaches employment discrimination

As @jamellebouie.net has been saying, they are absolutely trying to bring back segregation.

Why did Pete Hegseth have a hair and makeup studio built at the Pentagon for his TV appearances? Because he became too woke.

Purported ICE agents raid a courthouse in Charlottesville in plain clothes without badges, ID or warrants, cart off two men without explanation. One of the three men was masked and the detainees were ushered into unmarked van. Video in the article. dailyprogress.com/news/local/c...

amusing that the contrarian leftists obsessed with disdain for resistance moms ended up on the same side as centrist goobers like Jon Stewart and David Brooks www.liberalcurrents.com/trump-alarmi...

“Some officials say U.S. citizens who criticize administration policies could be charged with crimes" This is literally what I for a living

“We shouldn’t talk about immigration, it’s his strongest issue.” NOT ANYMORE LOSERS. BECAUSE WE TALKED ABOUT IT

Profiles in courage. The federal prosecutors in NY who resigned rather than obey political orders to falsely confess to wrongdoing in the Eric Adams case.

The Gerald F. and Marjorie G. Fitzgerald Professor of Economic History at Northwestern University. There will be many more and we will all be poorer and worse off because of it.

Nah; I’m good.

Masked men without identification abducting members of the population and throwing them into unmarked vans for non crimes This is fascism in practice and deed.

Related: this is not even the earliest story that I remember Melissa del Bosque writing re: the way under-18s are treated in the system and it's from 2010. I don't have to tell y'all that the system has sucked since time immemorial bc the system is made to suck www.texasobserver.org/children-of-...

When I left the Washington Post in 2023, my colleagues and I were worried AI would hoover up our work and enable "zombies" to churn out stories based on our reporting and writing styles. Today WaPo announced a partnership with OpenAI. And here it is: Zombie Gillian Brockell. I DID NOT WRITE THIS.

How are things going with respect to the discovery before Judge Xinis in Abrego García? Well, the government describes as a “false premise” that it “has been ordered to facilitate Abrego García’s release.” (That’s *literally* what #SCOTUS held.) pacer-documents.s3.amazonaws.com/84/578815/09...

BREAKING: The International Monetary Fund says the economic outlooks for the U.S. and the world have worsened significantly due to Trump's trade war.

I have seen a few questions regarding Democracy Docket: 1. It does not sell subscriber or member information or email addresses. 2. It is not part of Substack or ActBlue. It is fearlessly independent, unapologetically pro-democracy. Subscribe now. newsletters.democracydocket.com

Gun registry? No. Autism registry? Yes? Fuck ALL the way off.

NEW: Mahmoud Khalil's wife gave birth to their child without him after ICE denied their request to let him be present. “This was a purposeful decision by ICE to make me, Mahmoud, and our son suffer,” Dr. Abdalla said. “My son and I should not be navigating his first days on earth without Mahmoud."

Trump now invoking the widely recognized “following the law is too much work” exception to due process. Courts usually HIGHLY sympathetic to this argument. 🙄

Not to put too fine of a point on this, but if I spent the last few months putting innocent people in concentration camps and the pope died basically three seconds after I met him, I would not continue life apace, I would not immediately clock back in at the fascism factory.

Trump’s second term has been the worst start for any President since at least Hoover in stock market performance terms.

This is the correct attitude. I wish more Dems would join Raskin. www.offmessage.net/p/donald-tru...

Francis's biographer said he combined two qualities rarely seen together: "the political genius of a charismatic leader" and "the holiness of a desert saint."

Long-term bond yields are blowing out again

If Hegseth resigns and we get an Acting Secretary of Defense, it'll be the eighth time we've had one. One came under Nixon, a second under GHW Bush. And then we had *five* under Trump.

Pete Hegseth reportedly shared details about Yemen strikes in a second group chat with his wife and brother. Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., says it's 'not shocking' based on behavior out of the Pentagon.'

I don’t know much about finance, but I often think about how Jerome Powell spent years making slow, cautious, deliberate moves to rein in inflation without tipping us into a recession in the aftermath of COVID, only for it all to be unraveled by a handful of guys with "ideas."

All facts

One if by land, two if by sea and three if in contempt of a 4/19/25 SCOTUS order.

So many small powerful moments like this. RIP Pope Francis. www.cnn.com/2013/11/07/w...
