Needlework portrait of Queen Elizabeth I, c1580, possibly originally applied to the front of a presentation purse containing sweetmeats or presents of money, the higher nobles and bishops having to present the Queen with gold coins enclosed within ornamental bags at the New Year.

A bog body found in #Ireland, previously thought to be a male, has actually been confirmed to be female. Evidence shows her throat was slit and she was decapitated before being thrown into the bog sometime between the 4th and 1st century BCE. Researchers believe she may have been a human sacrifice.

When all you need to do is warm the shoulders and neck then of course a green velvet chiffon lined mantle is the only option. Dating to c1900, it is a dandy little number, a little flurry of fabric #mfaboston #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Very sad to hear about Jennifer Johnston today. She was a great friend to the Lyric and to the Tinderbox family over many years. Straight talking, generous, wise and encouraging, her contribution to the wider arts landscape was immense…

One of my early discoveries of truly great literature: Shadows on Our Skin impacted a very young me. RIP Jennifer Johnston 💚

I am NOT in agreement with the UK's reduction of overseas development aid from 5% to 3%, and the proliferation of weapons in an increasingly dangerous world. I am therefore resigning my membership of the UK Labour Party. Peace leadership requires strong leadership. @teamlabouruk.bsky.social 😞

What a treat to meet H.E. Nicholaos Papageorgiou, Ambassador of Greece in Egypt, who highlighted the enduring partnership between Egypt and Greece, a shared history, and a collaborative future. 🇬🇷🇪🇬

Principled stance from N/Ireland's First Minister, Michelle O'Neill. Not attending the White House for St. Patrick's Day is a big deal, but she stands on the right side of history + support the Palestinian people against suggested mass expulsion from their land.☘️💚🇵🇸 www.linkedin.com/posts/ugcPos...

This is what will be influencing government in the run up to the Spending Review. Universities must realise that there is no knight in shining armour about to ride in to make the sector financially sustainable - its up to us in the sector to do this

I was born in a country without access to #contraception, and grew up in a country without access to safe, legal abortion. As a relatively young woman (ahem) that shocks people I tell here. Every gain was fought hard for, and there is more to fight for and protect. #reproductiverights #birthcontrol

"We do not intend to prevent providers from pursuing legitimate commercial objectives or strategies..." from para 49 of the OfS consultation on condition e7 I wonder if the OfS has a view on what profit per student is legitimate, and how this is traded-off against the student interest?
