someone tell the university administrators who don't get it yet that no concession, no advance purge, will work. they're coming for federal university funding anyway, unless your institution is a useful place for kids to be trained as protofascists. even then, they'll say what stays and what goes.

About a week ago, a group of concerned Black scholars at Penn State sent an open letter to the Penn State President asking for a clarifying response to a set of questions. drive.google.com/file/d/18Ctc...

snitch page for the DOE just launched. you know what to do.

“Dying of Whiteness” did have accounts from plenty of folks who were willing to give up healthcare for all because “all” included the others. But still

Look if a man had recently become a bipartisan folk hero for allegedly killing a CEO for denying people healthcare...I'm not sure my opening salvo would be voting to strip a large chunk of a gun toting population of healthcare. That's just me though.

Integration is controversial.

Having heard a few other folks have been teaching it in their classes makes me feel much less weird about assigning AI & Blackness as a reading in my course 😅 ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/960...

This was just 233 days ago:

💥The Netherlands' largest pension fund, has sold its shares in Tesla, Meta, and Alphabet (Google). The fund with US $569 billion equivolent in assets is "directing more money to companies and projects that help to improve society and the environment." #Divest www.reuters.com/markets/euro...

When people want to talk to me about the backlash against US higher ed but don't want to mention racism, this is one of the key reasons I become very annoyed (Also the data used to create this post had its contract canceled this month so are won't be able to track things like this in the future)

We're hiring at the @digblk.bsky.social! Hiring a "Data Scientist" (very broadly defined) to collaborate on the @ccp-org.bsky.social, @douglassday.bsky.social & emerging work on Black archives & AI. Can be remote! Info: bit.ly/cbdr-ds We're reviewing apps this month. Help us spread the word?

This year I think we’re going to read some of “Unparalleled Catastrophe…” (Chapter 2 of “On Being Human as Praxis”) instead of “Unsettling the Coloniality…”

Don't comply in advance. And when the crackdowns do come, find every means to subvert them.

The breadth and scope of cowardice amongst our scientific leadership is staggering.

Must watch speech by neuroscientist Kailyn Price at a HHS rally protesting funding cuts to science. "Cutting indirect costs is like telling a football team to work with only the players. No lights for the field, no physical therapists for the players, no water for the showers."

thread of anti-klan cartoons from 100+ years ago

That’s how you write a headline, people.

Philadelphia turned out! 💪 Workers, students, and allies from universities across the city rallied to say: Hands off our healthcare, research, and jobs! Billionaires want to gut higher ed & lifesaving research to fund their tax cuts. We’re fighting back. #LaborForHigherEd

right: the issue has and has ever been that qualified—MORE qualified, EQUALLY qualified, UNIQUELY qualified—people have been historically RESTRICTED from positions where they are the meritorious candidate, in favor 9f incompetent White Cis Men. In order to SERVE all, institutions must REFLECT all.

Was surprised to see State College on this list. Wonder what happened there…

🚨 US #HigherEdWorkersUnite folks worried about attacks on our research & jobs! 🎓✊🏻 There are actions across the US on W Feb 19: www.labor4highered.org "Fund Don't Freeze" webinar from last week: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpEp... @higheredlabor.bsky.social @aaup.bsky.social @aftunion.bsky.social

DON’T MEMORY HOLE ELON MUSK’S NAZI SALUTE It’s been 4 weeks and 1 day since Elon Musk loudly vocalized his support for Nazi ideology Everything that has happened since has happened with the guidance of an open Nazi This should be repeated in articles, regularly

The head of Social Security stepped down after refusing to give Elon Musk’s team access to Social Security records. Michelle King had worked for the agency since 1994.

You mean it’s not about “States rights” after all?

Big, growing crowd just west of the U.S. Capitol protesting Trump, Musk and DOGE on President’s Day. “Hey Congress, grow a spine,” they shout, gathering for a rally around the reflecting pool.

Atlanta police have set up secret surveillance cameras outside of Stop Cop City activists' houses and gathering spots––and they refuse to answer any questions about the cameras www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

They will make an example of a high profile liberal university by pulling all federal funding bc the school supports a Black student event or leases property to a D9 chapter, etc. They move like a lynch mob-control the many by terrorizing the few. Don't run. Fight for the sake of fighting.

Race is not immutable tho

📌URGENT: The Associated Press is one of the foremost news operations in the world. Without it, most media entities could not survive. 📌Well, the AP has now been barred from the White House. I'd suggest very strongly that any media that gets its news from AP takes a damn stand here in solidarity.

What these nihilistic vandals are doing to dismantle science & medicine—generations of expertise & public service & life improving benefits—is cultural revolution level national self harm. No foreign foe could inflict such brutal damage & senseless suffering on US so fast & effectively & unresisted.

It’s almost like “ai” is a massive scheme to devalue, and destabilize labor while shifting power back into the hands of corporations.

We only know this man is in Gitmo because Noem tweeted a propaganda photo that included him and his sister saw it. He has no criminal record. He entered the US in January and immediately made an appointment with CBP to claim asylum. They sent him to a concentration camp bc of his basketball tattoo.

Def saw some diff messaging about the indirect funding compared to earlier EOs 👀

my view is that as soon as the administration froze disbursement of congressional appropriations we entered constitutional crisis territory

Trump targets Education Department research arm in latest cuts “that includes the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).” (Some great data from there) Also what is the point of having a contact? Might as well have just operated on vibes and saved the paperwork if you can just do this.

We should all be prepared to be the level of petty of Kendrick and his team (😂)

With Trump + the NFL likely to turn today’s Super Bowl into at least some degree of fascist spectacle, it’s worth remembering Colin Kaepernick (@kaepernick7.bsky.social) literally gave up his career to challenge the regime’s white supremacist project the first time around. Solidarity to the GOAT.

Black anti-fascists argued the Atlantic world’s history of racial violence belied the novelty of intra-European fascism. Speaking at the Second International Writers Congress in 1937, Langston Hughes declared: “We Negroes in America do not have to be told what fascism is in action. We know.”

Something people (including me whoops) have not been mentioning much, is that LA is straight up on it’s 4th day of anti-ICE protests, predominately led by the HS students. As in students are ditching class to walk out to protest ICE in our city.

"Musk will reinvent the US government in the way that the hyperloop reinvented trains, that the Boring company reinvented subways, that Juicero reinvented squeezing. Which is to say he will...offer no solutions beyond those that consolidate his own power and wealth." www.wired.com/story/the-us...

This gets at something I've been trying to articulate about the attacks on science and the academy. I've seen folks worried that our work matters (and I've worried this myself). But there is no bigger confirmation that it matters than these irrational freaks attacking it.
