Another gem of a politician - from my home district in FL. www.nbcnews.com/politics/con...

This is key: If we want to beat Trump, we must talk about impeachment until it gathers public support and becomes a Big Thing. Failing to talk about it, as Dems think is smart, means it will never become a Big Thing.

Trump take cow.

Let's be very clear that Pete Hegseth absolutely has his job because he is a white man.

“RESIST. DO NOT COMPLY WITH THEIR ILLEGAL MANDATES.”Judge Ortiz emailed her EEOC colleagues after the anti-trans EO. She told me, “The unknown was not as scary as being complicit and not speaking up. I can exist on cornflakes and community at the end of the day if it means that my soul is intact.”

Be clear about what you are seeing. The firing of these senior officers has nothing to do with competence. This is creating an oath of loyal by the Armed Forces to the Leader. We face an uncertain future.

Others have said it better but the bottom line is: Trump is purging the military to create a force that politically aligns with and will protect him. This is bad - for everyone. Congress needs to step in and impeach this man who has no respect for our institutions or our uniformed personnel.

Regardless of how much coverage it gets, Trump aiming to install a military command that places loyalty to him above loyalty to the constitution needs to be a much bigger story.

This is very, very bad. Am working on a write-up, but let’s just say that firing military leaders for blatantly political reasons is wildly inappropriate; firing all the too lawyers is ominous; firing them all at the same time is a terrifying five-alarm fire

None of this has anything to do with effectiveness, or “lethality,” or promoting “warfighters," or any other buzzwords. It is praetorianism, plain and simple, and it is an assault on our military and our democracy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

So. It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year. I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

Senate Republicans just *BLOCKED* Sen. Ossoff’s amendment to protect children’s and maternal health care through Medicaid.

Most people probably aren’t tracking this but Senate Republicans just started an all-night voting marathon that will allow them to gut Medicaid and increase child hunger while giving handouts to billionaires like Elon Musk.

There seems to be a lot of confusion out there about what it means to be a "probationary employee." In some cases, these are people who are newly hired to an agency/org. In other cases, it's someone who has been there for YEARS and was recently promoted to a new role. 1/

New: DOGE's spending has been secret. No longer. My colleagues have uncovered it. www.propublica.org/article/doge...

Just from talking to staffers on the Hill, I have no idea whats coming next but this pressure is absolutely getting to the offices.

For eight decades, America’s alliances with other democracies were the bedrock of American foreign policy, trade policy, and cultural influence. No longer www.theatlantic.com/internationa...

So what we have now confirmed is that this whole constitutional power grab is a grift to even further enrich Elon Musk.

My U.S. Rep, a Democrat, held a town hall and explicitly said that THE REASON she was speaking out louder now was because she got so many calls and emails. DEFINITELY YELL AT THEM. It’s the only language they speak. It’s literally how they gauge public opinion.

When he declares himself king, he is insulting you—and the nation. You have rights. The government is YOURS. And our loyalty is to the Constitution—the profound and fundamental essence of our nation. Not him. True patriots don’t bow down to kings.

Buckle up people. This is just one of many bellwether tests that are coming regarding the military's willingness to comply with orders that violate current laws. #civmilsky #poliscisky @senatedem.bsky.social @housedemocrats.bsky.social

CNN — "Some defense officials responsible for drafting lists of civilian Pentagon employees to be terminated as soon as this week are raising concerns with their superiors that the summary firings could break the law and potentially harm US military readiness, a senior defense official told CNN."

Good luck with that...

Actual post from a White House account

The American dream, ladies and gentlemens.

Trump calls himself “THE KING”

@raskin.house.gov: "In that network of rightwing billionaire libertarian-turned-authoritarians, they are very open about the fact that they think democracy is obsolete, we're living in a post-Constitutional America, and they are trying to get everyone ready for a technostate monarchy."

I keep hearing people say Trump is dumb for firing immigration judges just as he’s trying to dramatically ramp up deportations. It’s only dumb if you assume they plan to respect due process for those they deport. I think “ominous” is the better word. www.bostonglobe.com/2025/02/18/m...

US diplomacy is in free fall. @profsaunders.bsky.social takes stock of Rubio's early days (bad) & US talks with Russia in Saudi Arabia (terrible) goodauthority.org/news/why-hig...

Authoritarians in countries backsliding away from democracy learned not to cancel elections. Instead, they abuse state power to give themselves unfair advantages in elections, then cite their “victory” as a source of legitimacy. US is not really at risk of no elections. The risk is unfair ones.

RFK Jr. thinks that a clinical trial should be done for the entire childhood vaccine schedule. Here’s why that will never happen. 1. You can’t do a randomized trial of something that we already know is safe and effective. There would have to be a placebo group that didn’t get vaxxed. Unethical.
