I love our universe! #Astrophotography

The daffodils and forsythia do complement each other well I think. And a few pollinators around them. Spring joy. #garden

The Camelias are starting to wake up. Along with the wild cherry plum, lesser celandines and all sorts of more native plants. Isn't nature beautiful 😍 #gardening

12 million light years away and we can now use computers to help us photograph in the back yard. Technology can be brilliant. Our universe is so amazing, we are lucky to have evolved enough to do this, let's try not to destroy our planet though... #Astrophotography #universe

It’s #NationalButterflyDay - can you help protect them? Last year, a Butterfly emergency was declared. Numbers hit a record low. A big reason? PESTICIDES!! Please Sign & Share the @greenpeaceuk.bsky.social petition at action.greenpeace.org.uk/protect-our-... #Nature #Butterflies 🦋

Today is #WorldWildlifeDay I think this quote from the wonderful Dame Jane Goodall is very appropriate... 'What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.'

One of the many reasons I enjoy reading novels is the mind and person inventing the story. I also recognise how much hard work goes into a good work of fiction. I don't want to read what a computer has produced thanks, and don't want hard working writers cheated upon. #booksky

This is a depressing list of United facing shortages and, calling for staff redundancies with courses closing. You cannot fix the economy without a healthy university sector. 🧵

#ThoughtForTheDay from @mrrickygervais.bsky.social. "Animals are not here for us to do as we please with. We are not their superiors. We are their equals. We are their family. Be kind to them." There is NO excuse for #AnimalAbuse EVER!! ⬇️ Ricky with his adopted cat @pickliciousf.bsky.social ❤️.

As I mentioned earlier, I will never understand how anyone can derive so much pleasure from killing beautiful creatures?!?

Do you want to contribute to research on plant aesthetics? Take this quick, anonymous 5-minute survey: www.biodiful.org#/plantiful_en This will help to explore how people perceive plant beauty in urban spaces! 🌼🌸🏵️ #plants #research Please SHARE the survey 🦋 tag @biodiful.bsky.social 🙏💚

Zombie spiders! Found these 'cellar spiders' in our woodshed. Most already dead. It's a fungus that turns them white whilst eating away at them like something from a horror movie. Possibly Gibellula fungus. I need to get a microscope 🔬.. Isn't nature amazing. #fungifriends #spiders

uk residents over 18 please consider taking part in a major health research programme. I completed the tests on Sunday (my choice) and filled in the questionnaire. All straightforward. #ourfuturehealth ourfuturehealth.org.uk/get-involved...

New stars forming - so beautiful #Astrophotography #nebulae

Do your local library a kindness! Share this if you love and support libraries and librarians (don’t forget your school library & librarian, too!) 😊📚 Thank you to all the library workers who keep the magic alive—you’re true heroes! ✨💚

Do native predators help Australian mammals face invasive cats and foxes? 🦊 In this week's blog post, we discuss whether native predators inside ‘predator-free’ havens could be good for the conservation of threatened native prey species 💭🌎🧪 Read more 👇 appliedecologistsblog.com/2025/01/16/k...

Our universe is so beautiful...we are made of stardust! Need a lot of patience and skill to produce these astro pics #Astrophotography

✨Make a Wish✨ I eat the dandelions in my yard. Dandelions are highly nutritious & nearly the entire plant is edible! Let’s 🛑 using pesticides on them 🌱💙 #layers #BlueSkyArtShow #plantsky #witchsky #plant #flower #plantknowledge #closeup #beneficialplants #nativespecies #vegan #organic #savethebees

An excellent guide to viewing the night sky. As well as nature on earth I am constantly amazed by our universe out there and I found this a great book for understanding what is out there, from auroras and planet rotation to deep sky imaging. #books #booksky

@janetamadision.bsky.social Just reminded me to take care so I thought I would share her good advice: Scammers are becoming more common, so always verify unexpected calls, avoid sharing personal details, watch out for urgent demands, use call-blocking tools. Good advice! #scams

Get to know British trees, understanding is important if you want to help. This book is a brilliant guide by Paul Sterry, and the Woodland Trust app is a great way to identify trees as well as learn about their mythology. #books #booksky #trees Any suggestions for other parts of the world?

A Weed is just a plant in the 'wrong' place, but define 'wrong'? This book is a great reference for reminding us of the beauty and uses of plants some call weeds. #books #booksky #weeds Weeds: the beauty and uses of 50 vagabond plants by Gareth Richards - brilliant

Leave the garden untidy in winter. I could hear someone strimming in the distance. Freezing temperatures and most of these wild patches, long grass etc will have creatures hiding from the weather. Disturbing them could kill them, and the flowers will still try their best. #nature #conservation

The Triangulum Galaxy (M33) is a stunning spiral galaxy in the small northern constellation Triangulum. It is one of the closest galaxies to the Milky Way and an important member of the Local Group of galaxies. #astrophotography #space please 🩷and RP

More fungi families popping up, again by some old wood we left down when a tree fell. I suspect lots of insects have a home in it all too. These may be Hypholoma. #fungi #fungifriends #mygarden

A new family just popped up in the garden. Leaving old wood around helps so many creatures... I think these may be Psathrellacae... #fungi #fungifriends #mushrooms

Common dandelions, don't rip them out of your lawn, they keep on flowering even in the depth of winter, great for pollinators...so important #flowers #mygarden #nature

Our universe is so amazing! And what we can now do from our own gardens... #Astrophotography

Wild primroses are starting to flower, great for the insects still popping out to look for food. Lovely, don't pick them (apparently some do) let them feed the pollinators! #flowers #Gardening

Choisya, not native but giving some important winter flowering here. And in the summer too of course! Especially as it is a bit warm for the time of year, flying beasties need help. #nature #flowers

Amazing range of fungi still growing in the garden, despite recent frost and heavy rain. So glad we have never used any fertiliser, herbicides etc since we moved here 5 years ago. We can all make a difference if we let nature be... #fungifriends #mushrooms

I think this is a Heath waxcap, again these don't like fertiliser on the grass, so keep your garden natural... #fungifriends #mushrooms

Trees will grow if we let them. Some of our beautiful Oaks are growing right through our sandstone old quarry, and giving us much joy. If we could all stop cutting them down or bringing in diseases, they might even survive our climate crisis if we take real action now...

Outrage as video shows fox caught in 'barbaric' snare trap on King's Sandringham estate. 😡 No one should be using these vile traps anywhere, and the Royal family should lead the way and not use them. SHARE if you think they should be banned. Full Story: www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news...

Nature’s Gold, England’s Glory

Let's leave some untidy areas in the garden, woodpiles, leaves, long grass etc. Lots of smaller animals in the UK have tucked into these places for the winter. Like this little newt ( Lissotriton vulgaris) last week, playing dead in our doorway, was just looking for a place to sleep.

Give nature a chance and it will come. Waxcaps (Hygrocybe) are now in our garden. They only grow in ancient grassland with no fertilisers, herbicides biocide etc. It has taken 5 years since we moved in - not doing these things and look!
