And….. she is the first woman to win the Balsillje prize. Congrats @profwhw.bsky.social!!!

Happy news! I was honoured to receive the Balsillie Prize for my new book We, the Data: Human Rights in the Digital Age! I am so thankful to the selection committee at Writer's Trust of Canada, and to the phenomenal Balsillie Prize finalists: Gregor Craigie, Christopher Pollon, and M.G. Vassanji πŸ“š

Wendy H. Wong wins 2024 Balsillie Prize for her book We, The Data: Human Rights in the Digital Age: The jury called Wong’s book an β€˜eye-opening, gripping look at the ways in which humanity is being codified, monitored and tracked at alarming speed and intensity – in largely unaccountable ways’

This obsession is unhealthy. Our horizons are fine. Also social media, for most, is not a job. It is not school. It is socializing. And it’s fine to say β€œI don’t want to hang out with Nazis, homophobes, transphobes etc in my free time.”

I am so excited to share that my book "We, the Data" is nominated for the Balsillie Prize for Public Policy! The finalist will be announced Tuesday, Nov. 26 in Toronto. The Toronto Star has shared excerpts from the finalists' books – read them here πŸ—ž #publicpolicy #digitaltech #balsillieprize
