"How did we get here?" people ask. Well, for some reason when he was arrested for very real crimes, Donald Trump was allowed to negotiate down his ball bond, so he didn't go to jail, could keep campaigning and win the election. Who the hell said that was okay.

Been doing a lot of maths over the past few days to figure out that whoever came up with pension law in the UK is an asshole.

@jordanshiveley.bsky.social So many teeth

It's March 2025 and I just ordered a diary... for 2025. I'm not liking the one I've got so I'm replacing it with a page-per-day one.

Holy shit I just had an IRL auto complete moment. I went to type (on a full size physical keyboard) "get in trouble" but actually typed "get in touch". Just... how?

A reoccurring thought I have is that things would be a little less crazy if Sam Altman hadn't decided he wanted to be a billionaire.

I've hit a weird problem with my #writing. A society where pervasive magic runs everything but there is no central communication system. No audio or video broadcasts, no magic internet, no newspapers. And someone needs to communicate to people en masse. What do they do?

Authors, take note

Think I'm going to have to throw out 15k words and rewrite a chunk. These sections are just boring, don't feel like they're getting going or really doing anything. Not sure what to replace them with. Maybe a civil war. #amwriting

Reading through some #writing to edit and getting "this could have been an email" vibes from an entire scene. Nothing really happens in it. Thinking about cutting a bunch.

Most of the time my executive dysfunction goes "don't wash up, watch YouTube". Today it went "don't make lunch, write". Is that better?

one great mystery of our age is how the only way to motivate rich people to work is to give them loads of money for no reason but the only way to motivate poor people to work is to take away loads of their money for no reason

The incredible disappointment of watching the final episode of a show ever made and it ends on a cliffhanger.

EXCELLENT

Every so often I get TFA alerts because someone tries to hack one of my email accounts. I wonder if it's different people or the same person hoping I've turned TFA off.

No shots longer than 5 seconds. No meaningful action on screen. Only one talking character showing face at once. We are a long way from AI recreating the Goodfellas oner, or a car chase, or just two characters walking and talking.

According to my dentist I have a 4 year old kid, because they linked my account with a random child's. Getting it corrected was fast, but that can't explain how it happened, so can't prevent it happening again. This is probably going to be a whole thing.

Tried writing a tumblr post. Got two paragraphs and brain ran out. I'm sick and not fully recovered yet. As a result nothing else has been going on.

One day Discord will install a sixteenth update and that will be the signal.

Star Trek/CompSci question: if you tranporter-cloned a Borg drone and sent both back to the collective, would the drones be reabsorbed without question or would there be a freakout as there were two of something that should be unique, like a database violating a key field rule?

Tomorrow I need to go out and buy some food. But I also need to stay in because I'm expecting a delivery. This won't be a problem at all.

Today has just been jumping between projects, constantly getting distracted and barely getting anything done. The longest I could focus at a time was washing dishes and listening to a podcast for an hour.

Truely the way to make a video game is to have a vague idea of the type of game and story, then try to design your main character before doing any coding at all. ... Anyway, back to tutorials.

Why is some stuff harder to get wired than wireless?

I'm doing weird things with the YouTube algorithm. I'm watching stuff I'm subscribed to, but on a machine that isn't logged in. So on the backend it doesn't know I'm still watching the stuff I enjoy. Will be interesting to see how it reacts. What will it recommend?

Silicon Valley has invented an incredibly easy way for gig workers to get themselves alone, with a billionaire, with a gun in their hand

Had a work meeting that relieved a little anxiety. I have officially finished my probation. I have a job until I quit or make a massive mistake, or there's economic upheaval.

Trying to learn how to do art by drawing in Excel. What a time to be alive.

I think gambling is the only industry that puts out ads that are entirely "hey, maybe don't use our services", and more people should be talking about why that is.

What's the weirdest thing you've done today? I rearranged my entire desk so that I could push my laptop back an extra 10cm.

Managed to do a bit more walking while working today. I usually go 4km a day, today I went 5km.

There are some things you need to buy on a computer rather than a mobile. Not because of some psychology around 'big purchases', but because sites for big items don't run well on mobile browsers, making it hard to read reviews and tech specs.

We interrupt these ads to being you an ad for the ads you were watching when we interrupted them.

Had two appointments today. One out of house, one in house. So I've had to both time manage a journey and do lots of cleaning prep. One went well, one didn't. Need to buy a new microwave, repairs would cost the same as a new machine and it would break again in 2.5 years.

Well, now I've got a repair person coming tomorrow to fix the thing that broke yesterday. So today is going to be CLEANING.
