Tip of the tongue phenomena seem to involve the first sound of the missing word: e.g. Swimmee... Swammy.. Swan... Swanson? This seems to suggest something interesting about the way memories are either stored or retrieved but I'm not entirely sure what yet #phdsky #psych #memory

if you’re tired of Word/excel/PPT asking to save files to OneDrive and would rather default to your local computer, it’s in Preferences > Save - uncheck the top box (whose wording sounds nothing like having this functionality)

Since the 1980s, sexual harassment against women in the workplace (U.S.) has been declining in nationally representative samples of federal workers. Men have also caught up with women in recognizing sexual harassment. From Michael J. Rosenfeld sociologicalscience.com/download/vol... #phdsky

must be incredibly frustrating and disheartening to have federal funding that was promised to you for important work suddenly and arbitrarily ripped away

In France, only 3% of public spending goes to research — just €27B budgeted for 2025. Shockingly low for a country that prides itself on innovation. 🧪 Underfunded labs 🧠 Brain drain 🏫 Poor faculty conditions Investing in the future isn’t optional. #Research #Science #France #WhereGoesTaxes

Hard to explain how good this paper is. Completely shakes up the idea that culture changes visual perception. This is a must read paper. From @dorsaamir.bsky.social & @chazfirestone.bsky.social philpapers.org/archive/AMII... #psych #meta

Please, for the love of science in infant cognition, make videos of your stimuli available (even if you do live puppet shows). I'm trying to read through a paper right now, and there is no way someone could replicate it in good faith because there are no videos and so few details.

A re-analysis of Ciacci's (2024) "Banning the purchase of sex increases cases of rape: Evidence from Sweden" Journal of Population Economics reveals major issues. A year ago, reproducers Adema, Folke, and Rickne found coding errors driving the paper's key results. Let's unpack this in a 🧵

New lab paper in JESP! What is the association between gender and food portion sizes? And how might such associations impact actual real-world treatment? We used lab and field studies to explore this question 🍽️

This is a nice paper for making procedures in a lab strict, but terrible for it's alternate purpose (explaining away failures to replicate). I'll respond to the points

Age period cohort is a dumb term & I think, because of the name, confuses people. It's just Age effects DATE of Data Collection effects Birth year effects So "age is just period minus cohort" Is mysterious & intelligent. "age is just date minus birth year" is boring, obvious, & the same thing.

Anyone who thinks chat GPT o-whatever is true Gen AI doesn't use it enough to be disappointed constantly by its answers/lies/mistakes

I sympathize, but am 2 minds about it. Minority take: we don't use slide rules to do matrix algebra anymore. We use stats programs. We don't go to the microfiche or physical stacks anymore. We use Google scholar. This feels like the next iteration.
