pay-to-stay fees in county jails are terrible, ofc. but far from the full extent of fees. there's fees imposed as part of a sentence, bail fees, phone call or tablet access fees while incarcerated, fees for electronic monitoring, public defender fees, diversion program fees............

This group filed a complaint against CPS around their Black Student Success plan, and I caught this lil bit in the Chalkbeat article about it - Biden tee-ing up some anti-DEI measures for Trump to enter office and pick up where he left off!

Abortion funds are buckling under the weight of need. Meanwhile no one can say what Big Repro is doing with their millions. It’s just infuriating on every level. I’m feeling particularly salty about of all of this for specific reasons.

Good news story of the day.

this was the resource I was thinking of!! Thank you for sharing again <3

CW: "At the hotel, at least one person tried to commit suicide, according to several migrants. Another broke his leg trying to escape. A third sent a plaintive missive from a hidden cellphone: “Only a miracle can save us.” www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/w...

It is 3°F and the weather app says it feels like -11°F. Human beings should not be kicked out of their shelters in this. I would not kick a squirrel out of a roof-hole in this.

Hundreds of asylum seekers from around the globe are being trapped by the US in a Panama hotel where they'll eventually be sent to a camp in the jungle. One Chinese man said “I thought: America is a free country with respect for human rights. I had no idea it was like a dictatorship.”

Israel has violated the ceasefire in Gaza 266 times since it came into effect on January 19, killing at least 132 people, Palestinian security sources have told Al Jazeera. 🔴 LIVE updates: aje.io/dh48s1

Atlanta police have set up secret surveillance cameras outside of Stop Cop City activists' houses and gathering spots––and they refuse to answer any questions about the cameras www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

i hope people who acted like the biggest threat to trans liberation was trans people who like it/its pronouns are reflecting rn but I know they're not

OF COURSE LOPEZ WAS THERE TOO

🚨NEW KYR WORKSHOPS 🚨

Leavitt says they’ve begun flying deportees to Guantanamo Bay. This is functionally disappearing human beings. There is no consular access to Guantanamo, making it nearly impossible for those held there to be represented by their governments. There is virtually no media access, either.

In preparation for today’s Super Bowl in New Orleans, state police forced over 100 homeless men and women onto buses under threat of arrest, dumping them in an unheated warehouse. Tents destroyed, belongings lost. Press are barred from the warehouse. The price tag for this cruelty? $17.5 million

People acted like it was a generational crisis that gen z & millenials were self diagnosing as autistic after like, going to therapy and reading books. Wish we could have a convo about those with money & power publicly claiming autism = white supremacy special interest?????

Too much news

Operation ICE Ride-Along isn’t going as planned. 🔥 Fox News tagged along with ICE, hoping for an exclusive look at “dangerous criminals.” Instead, they got a whole lot of nothing. No threats, no big arrests—just a community that wasn’t having it. The narrative is falling apart.

lots of folks wanting to do something! chicago community jail support still regularly has shifts that either never get filled or are held down by 1-2 people. liberation library was just on their insta asking for 2 more people to help pack books this sunday. there are opportunities to plug into!

🚨 BREAKING: Trump signs executive order withdrawing the U.S. from the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and cut all funding to UNRWA, the main agency supporting Palestinian refugees. This means millions of Palestinians lose access to food, healthcare, and education.

I've collected accounts from trans folks inside US prisons facing Trump's brutal crackdown: trans women rounded up + placed in solitary before transfer to men's prisons; canceled medical appointments + loss of vital healthcare; vicious taunting "You're going to be a man," one guard told trans women

NEW: One of the 4 CPD officers who fired 96 shots in 41 seconds at Dexter Reed shortly after he shot and wounded an officer during a traffic stop in March is now an officer with the police department in Tipp City, Ohio, population 10,484, @jaredrutecki.bsky.social reports for @wttw.bsky.social

RIP Hind Rajab. Today is one year on since this little six year old was killed (my daughter's age) - and then so were the two brave medics who came to rescue her, as agreed by the IDF, as she cowered in her family car with her family dead around her. I will never forget this story.

Chicago over everything. Truly.

"Every day, the occupation [army] arrests 30 to 40 or even 50 new prisoners." Israel has arrested more Palestinians than it has released as a result of its ceasefire deal with Hamas ⤵️ aje.io/kqftig

Let me get this straight: Either Trump sent ICE agents to an elementary school to search for undocumented immigrants, or the Secret Service was sent to track down "an 11-year-old who posted an anti-Trump video." Either way, not great.

Generative AI is not an assistive device because being a bad writer is not a disability.

WaPo went from winning a Pulitzer for documenting, quantifying, and contextualizing the American epidemic of racist and fatal police violence (for which they owe Wesley Lowery an enormous debt of gratitude) to the paper that hired the man who covered up such violence as mayor of Chicago. Neat.

Israel released 90 hostages in Gaza then took 90 new hostages in the West Bank. This is what Israel does and this is the vile colonial violence it’s founded on, beyond any kind of reform

Leonard Peltier is finally going home.

listening to Radio Garden - one of my fav stations is Radio Indigena 94.1 FM in Oxnard, CA, a project of Mixteco Indigena Community Organizing Project. They were essentially giving a KYR training on air this morning, and in between songs they are giving info about being prepared. there's lots to do!

Kelly is correct that noncompliance is key. The fact is that it's also key at the individual level. Each of us is going to have to take inventory on the things we won't comply with and the laws we're willing to break.

Trump White House's first trans executive order is out. I'll be reading over it here and going through line by line to help you make sense of it. You can find it here: www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

this morning in North Mpls, woke up to work, to the sound of Black garbage collectors, working on MLK day - a man assassinated while in Memphis to support AFSCME sanitation workers, woke up in this wealthy class consciousless lib city, on a Trump inauguration day. America.

they crushed a person with a bulldozer during an encampment sweep in ATL and the news of it has barely made a peep.

Just FYI, administrative warrants (like the ones used by ICE) are not judicial warrants (used by cops, signed by a judge). You do NOT legally have to open the door for an ICE officer with an administrative warrant *no matter what the ICE officer says.*
