The Met Gala raises money to support the Met's Costume Institute, the only Met department that must entirely support itself (which is its own worthy subject of conversation). The Met's Costume Institute is an ongoing marvel.

Interestingly, @nehirose.bsky.social's child is the only child I ever really interacted with in early adulthood, because she was a very early in life baby. Now that others my age are having children, my bestie's kid is an adult and I've forgotten how to kids again.
