SOBP BrainHack is officially open for registration! The hackathon will be held April 22-23 at Sick Kids Toronto. Beginners and experienced hackers welcome! Website and registration: www.repronim.org/SOBPHack-042...

The heartbreaking reality of the Trump administration's attack on science--thousands of brilliant young people's careers stopped dead in their tracks.

Hey #Chicago! It's time to take a stand for #science. We are rallying on March 7 at noon at the Federal Plaza. Start making your signs! Info standupforscience2025.org/chicago-il/ RSVP (optional) www.eventbrite.com/e/stand-up-f... #standupforscience #scienceforall @standupforscience.bsky.social

Hey,#Chicago, what do you say? Let’s #StandUpForScience on 3/7! standupforscience2025.org

Freezing out the NIH's funding means freezing out American innovation. Research into curing cancer, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's all delayed. And ultimately it won't just cost us advancements in life-saving research, it will cost us lives.

"In only five of the 90 cases were patients vaccinated against measles. The rest were unvaccinated or had an unknown vaccination status, the department said...Gaines County had one of the highest exemption rates in [Texas] last year, with more than 13% of K-12 students exempted."

Trump's lawyers are absolutely flailing in the courts right now

Would love to see this issue covered by more mainstream media... cc @sherylnyt.bsky.social @sangerkatz.bsky.social @joelachenbach.bsky.social @susansvrluga.bsky.social

There are currently three open faculty positions (all levels) in my department (Psychology) Oslo is a lovely city, modestly sized (600k) but a capital, surrounded by forest and the fjord We're also a stable democracy with high support of and trust in science www.sv.uio.no/english/abou...

I think we really need to repeat, and keep top of mind - The federal employee firings are NOT ABOUT SAVING MONEY. What is spent on those employees is peanuts compared to most of the money in the government. Firing federal employees sows confusion, depletes morale, and degrades government service.

From a friend at NSF: "We need lots of public support and outcries."

Again please share our study on the executive orders in academia iu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...

Thanks to all of the NIHers and their friends who reached out to me. I am still here (DM me or Signal jeremymberg.78) I still have a very incomplete picture but based on what I have been told, the damage to NIH and to many wonderful people who work(ed) there is/was impossible for me to imagine 1/n

I maxed out my credit card, emptied my savings account, and took out a loan to move from Alabama to Bethesda, MD. I don’t even qualify for unemployment since I’ve only worked at NIH for a month. I will be financially and medically devastated. Seeking suggestions for anywhere that’s hiring!!

I have been talking to the media, Time, Fortune, NBC, etc., to explain how the onslaught on science and NIH will impact the health of all Americans. Everyone knows someone who has cancer, heart disease, or depression. Spread the word about how cutting science impacts all. time.com/7216299/nih-...

I am recruiting for postdoctoral and technician positions at UCSD. If anyone with relevant skills/interests has lost funding due to the anti-DEI jihad or the NIH purge, I’m open to discussion of ways we can try to help out.

FANTASTIC ICPSR at U Mich is coordinating the archiving of at-risk federal data (all of it?) You can upload data you have & search for data you don’t have www.datalumos.org/datalumos/

I wrote an op-ed for voters in a red state about how devastating NIH indirect cuts are. This type of writing isn’t my comfort zone, but I think we as scientists need to get the word out. Happy to chat with others looking to do the same in their communities! www.tennessean.com/story/opinio...

Paper from the lab elucidating how RNNs use low dimensional circuit mechanisms to solve task. Watch this space for more interesting projects in the works 🥳 #neuroskyence

Can damage to a specific brain circuit cause psychosis? New paper out today by @andrewpines.bsky.social @shansiddiqi.bsky.social says Yes! Hub of the circuit is in the hippocampus - great alignment with NMDA encephalitis. @braincircuits.bsky.social

Many in biotech/private sector are boasting about their ways of funding and doing science But they are staffed with PhDs and postdocs we train in our NIH and NSF funded labs in universities With university labs lacking funds to train, the private sector will be profoundly harmed

BREAKING: 22 states sue NIH over Trump administration's new 15% cap on overhead for federal research grants. Suit filed federal court in Boston contends lifesaving research 'will grind to a halt' under the policy. Doc: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The United States by virtue of a bipartisan commitment to biomedical research created one of the most vibrant, productive research ecosytems in the world. People came from all over to study here, do research here. It was a monumental accomplishment by both parties. 1/

Since there has been a lot of misinformation circulating since last night, I find this AAMC infographic helpful in illustrating which types of expenses are and are not covered by NIH indirect cost reimbursements.

8 years ago @asbmb.bsky.social gave me +18 more trainees a crash course in advocacy for their DC Hill Day. With NIH slashing indirect costs effective immediately, university Govt Affairs teams will be swamped. Here's 10 tips for scientists contacting lawmakers +pics from Denver's 2017 Science March.

OK, for once, something amidst the doom and gloom! My very awesome First Graduate Student Ever just published her first first-author paper w/ me, on mechanisms of cognitive flexibility! (Of course not her first first-author overall, bc she's awesome like that.) www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

A new issue of Cell is out, featuring the 4 winners of the Rising Black Scientists Awards. Their essays bring hope, inspiration and reinforce the importance of equity in science. Do take a moment to check them out: www.cell.com/cell/current @cp-cell.bsky.social

We are very excited to announce the open release of a new 170 participant dataset: Linked MEG, TMS, multimodal 3T MRI, 7T MRI, Connectom MRI, cognitive /questionnaire data. Immense effort from a fabulous CUBRIC team. Paper by Carolyn McNabb et al: doi.org/10.1038/s415...

Another banger from the REMBRANDT study! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

I'm told that President Trump's attempted funding freeze caused SAMHSA officials in charge of the 988 National Suicide Hotline to study whether they have to shut it down -- even as it takes 20,000 calls a day from people in crisis. Does Trump really think that preventing suicide is woke?

Now they have taken down the entirety of the SAMHSA website. Eliminating websites for programs to treat substance use disorder and mental health will not magically make these problems go away.

In honor of Black History Month, we want to highlight a few of the outstanding Black neuroscientists we have interviewed! Now, more than ever, it is critical to strive for and celebrate DEI efforts in research & education—science is stronger when all voices are heard 💜 #BlackHistoryMonth

NIDA council today...no open meeting

I hope you will all join me in expressing your thanks to the NIH and NSF staff who are working in an impossibly difficult and chaotic environment to keep science going in our country.

My reaction to any news about #NIH these days

This account is for sharing info with US scientists, both extramural and intramural to NIH, about attacks on science in the US. Education is power, and we can help advocate for science and medicine together. 💪🧪 We are a team of NIH people. Please ask us questions you might have.

💫💫💫 Extremely excited about our new pre-print leveraging the strengths of hierarchical dimensional models of psychopathology to identify distinct behavior profiles from smartphone sensor data! Check out @aidangcw.bsky.social 's awesome thread on our findings!
