Little known fact: Open Science Tools Ltd (which maintains PsychoPy and Pavlovia, for those that don't know the name) turned 6 years old this month. Happy birthday us! 🎂

First day @spspnews.bsky.social ❤️ Thanks to everyone who visited me and @peircej.bsky.social at booth #10 so far ! It's always great to hear how folks are using @psychopy.org in their research and talk to new people who have never heard of us! Come chat if you're curious! #spsp2025

If you're at #spsp2025 and you're interested in ... 1️⃣ Help programming an experiment to run in the lab or online. 2️⃣ Planning training for you and/or your department. 3️⃣ How we make #opensource free tools like @psychopy sustainable Come chat to us at booth 10. DM me and we can arrange a chat!

✨ Pavlovia tips ✨ You can add specific team members to your #Pavlovia projects. For easy sharing and collaboration with lab members. You can later set project visibility to "public" when you are ready to share your materials openly! #openscience https://buff.ly/4avVaDH

New webcam based eye tracking demos!👀 You can use js packages in your Pavlovia experiment, including webgazer.js You can also update stimuli frame-by-frame based on gaze 🧐 This demo measures dwell times on faces.. Try it: https://buff.ly/42xspnQ View the code: https://buff.ly/4g9LlMW

In prep for SPSP we're uploading more Social Psychology demos! The Cyberball task is a measure of social inclusion/exclusion. Try it: https://buff.ly/4ge6fKU See the experiment files: https://buff.ly/4jzvZEm #socialpsychology #cyberball #spsp2025

Can you run Pavlovia experiments on mobile phones? YES Just use mouse/buttons as your response! An example demo from #linguistics - semantic priming Try it ✨ https://buff.ly/40AtzO0 Adapt the files 🖥️ https://buff.ly/42agP20 #language #psychology #researchtools

✨ PsychoPy tips ✨ Want to use a component only on specific trial types? Remember you can use Start > Condition and apply the condition In this example "ball_to" is the column in the spreadsheet and I want to use a mouse response only on "choose" trials. #psychology #software #researchmethods

Another week, another demo. This time a classic Simon Task... but ... butterflies 🦋 Try it: https://buff.ly/3PsQaWv Use the code: https://buff.ly/3Pr2TsZ #psychology #cognitive #experiment #psychopy

✨ Open Access data bases of stimuli for experiments are the best ✨ FACES is an open access database of .... well... faces! https://buff.ly/3Pjtnwf We used these stimuli to create some of our demos. What are your favourite #OpenSource stimuli data bases? #Psychology #SocialPsych #Research

🎥 Did you know that you can present YouTube videos in your Pavlovia Survey?🎥 Use an "Image" question type and use "YouTube" content mode. OR Use "html" question type and provide the html for an iframe. Take a look at the demo here https://buff.ly/3WrSSj4

Studying Decision Making ? Thinking about using PsychoPy? 💰 ➡️ 💰 💰 Delay discounting (with fixed delay) is a simple demo to get started (adaptive methods are possible). Try it https://buff.ly/3VZwgWQ 🔓Open materials https://buff.ly/41WbdIw #psychology #decisionmaking #research #economics

We worked with researchers at the University of Bath to add face detection into PsychoJS... Read the paper!👇 Trace: A research media player measuring real-time audience engagement and watch out for the next release where these features will be even easier to use! 👀 https://buff.ly/4heV5GC

We're fishing for likes with this gamified multi-armed bandit demo.... An example of the fun things you can do by making stimuli track the mouse! 🎣 #decisionmaking #psychology #behavior # research #psychopy Try it https://buff.ly/3C58v93 Use and adapt the experiment https://buff.ly/4h4mLOf

Someone reached out to ask if we had a demo of a dot-probe task on Pavlovia.... We didn't .... 🙈 but we do now!!✨ Try it https://buff.ly/3VZxQbe Use the Open Materials for your research! https://buff.ly/423mNln #OpenScience #PsychoPy #Pavlovia #Psychology

We're sponsoring SPSP - which means we will be joining you in Denver next month! What an exciting start to the year 😄 What social psychology tasks shall we demo? #socialpsych #psychology @spspnews.bsky.social

What do you add to your readme ? 📋 readme.md files are helpful, they: 1️⃣create a pop up window for other researchers opening your task in PsychoPy. 2️⃣populate documentation on your Pavlovia gitlab project. 3️⃣can remind you of helpful info e.g. data output

New Year New Experiment Demos ✨ Starting with an Ultimatum Game! Try it here: https://buff.ly/3W1cKJD Open Access Experiment Files here: https://buff.ly/3PqS35X #BehavioralEconomics #Economics #SocialPsych #Psychology #Experiment

Using Pavlovia with your PsychoPy experiment is a good way to get started with concepts of #git and version control. When you sync your project, don't forget to leave a useful "Summary of changes" - then you can see your full version history on Pavlovia via View Code > Repository > Commits.

📣 Planning training in the 2025? Fancy a Trip to the beautiful University of Nottingham?! Join us for our Official workshops! 1️⃣ April 1st - 3rd - Official PsychoPy workshop. 2️⃣ April 4th - PsychoPy + eye tracking (Tobii) + EEG (Brain Products) https://buff.ly/453qtSl

Your friendly reminder that when testing your task, you can skip parts of your experiment by putting a loop around them and setting Num Repeats to 0. #timesaver #psychopy

📣 #PhD position announcement📣 (please share) We're seeking applicants for a joint venture with University of St. Andrews (lead by Thomas Otto) exploring how we can optimise measures of #multisensory #perception for remote data collection. Find out more here👇 https://buff.ly/3ZJk131

Can you guess what task I'm making?

For anyone using @psychopy.bsky.social and #pavlovia, I created a proof-of-concept demo for using the "shelf" system to do synchronous multiplayer experiments: discourse.psychopy.org/t/online-mul...

Here’s a good example of ChatGPT output that could help students better understand how it works and its limitations. #edusky #eduai

December 9th we will run a new virtual Topic Workshop "Introduction to Eye Tracking in PsychoPy Builder" Basic Introduction to using eye tracking components in PsychoPy Builder for a range of eye tracking systems. 15:00 - 16:30 UK - Virtual Book tickets here https://buff.ly/421cfkt

Looks like we somehow got two booths at #psynom24 😂 ✨ Nice to see other teams using PsychoPy to demo how easy it is to integrate with hardware! Come stop by our booth today if you have any questions about what is possible!

Cool little conference demo #psynom24 Come challenge us to see what's possible in @psychopy.bsky.social This demo someone asked "can I have an experiment where someone draws on the screen then a cursor plays back the movement. Is it possible?" YES.

Are you at psychonomics ? Come see me and @f-defilippi.bsky.social at our @psychopy.bsky.social booth ! We have travel mugs, stickers, notebooks and pens .... Oh and info on PsychoPy and Pavlovia! #psynom2024

Does anyone have a recommendation for an eyetracking data analysis tool in Python? Ideally something that e.g. has fixation and saccade detection algorithms, and some visualisation. It seems that there is no particularly good standard. @benediktehinger.bsky.social #VisionScience

We're sure many of you are traveling to psychonomics! If you have a poster or talk in which you used PsychoPy and/or Pavlovia for your research - please let us know! We love seeing what folks are using the tools for, and we would love to share your work. 🦋 🦋 🦋 #psynom24 #psychonomics

Join us for one of our online workshops! 🧠 Dec 2nd: Intro to PsychoPy Builder 🌐 Dec 4th: Online research with Pavlovia 👩‍💻 Dec 5th: Extending Builder with Code Snippets 🐍 Dec 6th: Coding an Experiment in Python 👁️ Dec 9th: Intro to Eye tracking

So you need to find where something exists in your PsychoPy Builder experiment (a variable name, a component an image you have references). Did you know that you can use "Find in Experiment" to find all locations where a variable is referred to? #toptips #psychopy #psychology

Did you know PsychoPy has a Plugin and Packages manager? This means you can install any #python libraries that don't exist in the standalone install - making for even more flexible experiments. An example use case .... extracting audio onsets from wav files 👇 🔊

Did you know Pavlovia allows you full version control over your experiment? We've all been there right, you make an experiment ➡️ it works ➡️ you change something ➡️ it doesn't work? ➡️ we want to go back to the old verion.... Here is how.🧵
