Reading a pop mystery/thriller in which the villains are human traffickers shipping US women and children overseas, which as far as I know isn’t a thing. The book also includes the discovery of missing family members, primarily women and children. And I suddenly realized the two are related.

The entire executive branch is running without legal accountability at this point. The Supreme Court has ruled that the President can’t be tried for any of his acts, and the President has demonstrated that he will pardon anyone who does his will, up to violent assault resulting in death.

I remember listening to Paul Harvey on the radio, making fun of federal spending. He ridiculed studies of zoonotic diseases, which are caused by pathogens with animal reservoirs that infect humans, like rabies, Ebola and lyme disease. He didn’t know the term, so he assumed it was unimportant.

In order to prove that they are obeying the President’s order, Federal departments and Universities will want to be able to prove that they’ve hired the “best” candidate, regardless of race or gender. I foresee hiring decisions based on GPA, civil service test score and publication history.

One of the most effective bits of parenting advice I ever received was: when you ask a kid to do something, don’t walk away. Stand and stare at them until they do it. I have just realized that my dog is very successfully using this strategy against me.
