Don’t have smallpox or polio? Thank the World Health Organization. For its many accomplishments: www.who.int/campaigns/75... *Someone* is feeling all powerful and can destroy orgs by defunding, so today, I’m asserting my (tiny) power by donating to @Who.int Alone we’re tiny, together we’re big.

WHO continues to fight against misinformation and disinformation—a great challenge to global health. Governments, health agencies, and partners need to safeguard public trust by responding to misinformation and disinformation directly and effectively.

Aotearoa NZ set a global precedent in 2022 by moving to implement #tobacco endgame measures. These have since been repealed. This new commentary calls for "a return to evidence to ensure the continued improvement of public health and reduction of avoidable inequities." doi.org/10.1016/j.an... 🛟

Happy International Migrants Day everyone! The first migration day was held on December 18, 2000, and was designed to draw global attention to the risk, status and contributions of migrants around the world, as well as the need to provide assistance to migrants in distress.

OK, I had to try it! I gave ChattyG a few recent abstracts, my CV & bio, & links to my social profiles. Here's my #AcademicSky #roast, with my favorite part (guilty as roasted) highlighted:

I have tried to outline a "capital theory of race" here. The paper's historical argument in a nutshell: "even though the panic over the “yellow peril” was coded in the language of insurmountable difference, that is, race, the social logic of that threat was one of equivalence, that is, capital."

Egypt's recent certification as malaria-free by the WHO marks a significant public health achievement following nearly a century of efforts to eliminate a disease that has caused suffering and mortality since ancient times.

How much does the fossil fuel industry fund medical research? Quite a lot actually. Read more here in last week’s @bmj.com. #MedSky #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #Sustainability Link here: www.bmj.com/content/387/...

Have you heard of Robert Rayford? He was the earliest confirmed case of HIV/AIDS in North America. PEPFAR is estimated to have saved 25 million lives. Since it was launched by George W. Bush in 2003, it's always had bipartisan support. The first Trump admin launched the domestic Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative. Let's hope this doesn't end under the incoming Trump admin. #WorldAIDSDay #WAD2024

This bone condition suggests the presence of smallpox there in the 3rd/4thC. ora.ox.ac.uk/objects/uuid... #histmed
