I will absolutely donate extra money to the University of Chicago if it tells this administration to get stuffed

I know I’m a pedant about this, but Nero did not fiddle while Rome burned. I mean, I’m sure he did a lot of crazy, dictatorial stuff, but he was probably better than Trump.

“America is not just suffering from a wealth gap; America has the equivalent of a class apartheid. Our systems—of education, credentialing, hiring, housing, and electing officials—are dominated and managed by members of a “comfort class.”….people who were born into lives of financial stability.”

"now, when he heard of the death of Pertinax, hastily made his way to the camp, and, standing at the gates of the enclosure, made bids to the soldiers for the rule over the Romans." Cassius Dio, LXXIV, Ep. 11.2. penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Rom...

Today’s calls to my Congress peeps: (3/3) 3. Tariffs - 1) bad economics and bad foreign policy; 2) possibility for graft - A. allows for insiders to trade on imposition/removal/delay B. Applications for exceptions allow for opportunities for graft - especially in an era of crypto currency

Today’s calls to my Congress peeps: (2/3) 2. NOAA - cancelling leases on buildings that serve as computational hubs for weather forecasting

Today’s phone calls to my Congress peeps: (1/3) 1. Soc Sec: O’Malley’s assessment that DOGE cuts could trigger collapse of Soc Sec w/in 30-90 days - 40% of older Americans receive 100% of retirement income from Soc Sec - devastating (2020 NIRS report)

Today's calls to the Congressional folk: a) US policy re Ukraine; b) Musk's corrupt efforts to get an FAA contract for Starlink.

3. The purge of FBI snd DOJ employees: firing people who are civil servants because their work discomforted a political candidate (or his friends) violates every norm of any democracy’s independent public service and violates laws that protect civil servants from such actions.

2. Trump’s tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China. These will only hurt American consumers and the economy. I hope Democrats observe the implementation of these tariffs who benefits from exemptions that the Trump administration. The opportunity for corruption here is immense.

On today’s list of things to talk to my Congressional representatives about: (1/4) 1. Trump’s Interference in California water management based on complete misunderstanding of how water management works.

Pro-life-ish:

2/2: The regime would like evacuees from the L.A. fires home before LA clears toxic waste. Libertarians were thrilled by the pardon of Ulbricht (https://www.politico.com/news/2025/01/21/trump-pardons-ulbricht-silk-road-00199848), but insisting on right to clean up your own toxic waste? WOW!

Invasion, Day 5: [1/2] still quiet in Central Maine, although local insurrectionists were happy to hear that 15 J6ers with ties to Maine were pardoned. (

Invasion, Day 4: (2/2) - 2: prevent 1600 approved Afghan refugees from coming to US. Meanwhile, no signs of military advances by the invaders in Central Maine, but the price of eggs has sky rocketed. Freedom isn’t free, people.
