🕯 🕯 🕯 🕯 literally any 🕯 good news 🕯 🕯 🕯 🕯 🕯

One of my big fears is that there would be a new Kent State massacre and people would be so brainwashed that they wouldn’t even be horrified because we’ve fallen so far but that is pretty much actually what happened at Kent State

Someone once said NextDoor is the social network for dogs if they could type. It’s always “what’s that noise?” and “who’s that stranger?” which is exactly what I imagine my dogs would text other neighborhood dogs.

Oh fuck oh shit

Hey, just a quiet reminder: it’s not true that people get more conservative as they age. *Populations* get more conservative as they age because poor and marginalized people die sooner. nymag.com/intelligence...

I think it's bad that the country is led by people who haven't had a real problem in their entire lives and couldn't get a regular job due to being too weird

The reason I'm hitting myself in the head with a big cartoon mallet is that the people who told me not to do that were condescending. "That's gonna hurt dumbass" they sneered. Well it doesn't hurt and in fact I think it may be helping my asthma

thought crimes are now illegal in the united states. it’s truly baffling that their anyone was ever convinced by the right being pro “free speech”. anyone who gave any credence to that argument is a rube

It always boggles my mind that I, a journalist, am expressly forbidden from trading stocks, but members of Congress, with vastly greater knowledge of market-moving news, are allowed to profit by front-running markets, and so may profit by in essence stealing from the public they represent.

Victim complex

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made. -FS Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, published 4/10/1925.

What’s wild is that none of these guys would say “happy to contribute to the greater good” if this was about raising their taxes 0.01% to pay for a universal free school lunch program, they just say it about the thing that doesn’t help anyone and is being done for no reason

one thing I think we shouldn't lose sight of: these people are stupid, their ideas are bad, they are always wrong about everything. there is no mea culpa big enough to erase the fact that they have a child's understanding of the world and their vision for the future is not worth taking seriously

The problem is sociopathic corporate greed. 🧐

I wrote about this a bit in my last book but it really shakes me that a defining feature of this catastrophic era is that we just keep going to work. We work through pandemics, we work through natural disasters, we work through economic calamity, we work through coups, we work, we work, we work.

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

when people say "this isn't what I voted for" they should be forced to list what they DID vote for

Do you people realize how humiliating it is for me that my failed “3-course meal” chewing gum experiment got turned into a sexual fetish? Why couldn’t you have gotten horny for everlasting gobstoppers or my cool ass flying elevator? Why do you hyper-fixate on my failures? Fuck you.

It’s a recalibration of economic control. Oligarchs don’t live paycheck to paycheck. They have the capital to buy market dips and recoup faster, acquiring more assets at fire sale prices along the way. When the dust finally settles, they will own more. The rest of us will own less. A lot less.

Understand that when they talk about Americans working in textile factories and assembling iPhones, they are not envisioning their own children in those jobs. They are envisioning a class of people over which they and their children will have more power, with less irksome pushback.

it's literally unthinkable to the khive in my mentions that i could have voted for her and still be criticizing her. you not only have to vote for a candidate, you are also banned from ever saying anything against them even after they lose. very normal and healthy mindset

unironically i think we could have prevented a lot of this by not letting anyone hold any of the highest offices in the country unless they can pass the united states citizenship civics test, at minimum
