Lots of people were like "sure suspending the rule of law is bad, but it gets results" and now el Salvador is discussing building prison camps for US citizens. Basic bitch liberalism and the rule of law is good!! Stop relearning this lesson.

Do you mean like Auschwitz being in Poland?

Wouldn't it be nice if every news outlet that covered the Bukele Oval Office meeting noted: District court wrote: Abrego Garcia "has never been charged with or convicted of any crime."⤵️ Fourth Circuit: The government presented "NO EVIDENCE" of MS-13 affiliation. Abandoned argument before court. ⤵️

The Trump admin has just detained Mohsen Mahdawi, who: –has green card –was Columbia Buddhist club president –saw his best friend shot & killed by Israeli soldier –said "we are against antisemitism because antisemitism is a form of injustice, and injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere"

What we saw today was two jumped up thugs and their bootlicking sychophants laughing at the US Constitution, the supreme court, and the idea that anyone can stop them from doing anything they want www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Any Democratic politician who doesn't understand Nayib Bukele's grave offense against the sovereignty of the American people and constitutional order and say as much publicly should have no future in elected office. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/bukel...

One of hundreds of people abducted by ICE and sold to slavery in El Salvador was a 19 year old with no criminal record in the US or Venezuela and no tattoos of any kind. An ICE kidnapper who grabbed him outside his house said, "He's not the one." The other said, "Take him anyway." So they did.

"The administration is maintaining that it has the power to send armed agents of the state to grab someone off the street and then, without a shred of due process, deport them to a Gulag in a foreign country and leave them there forever." Adam Serwer, writing today in @theatlantic.com

The administration's demands were so nakedly totalitarian I think they had little choice.

MORGAN STANLEY: “.. Investors should prepare to be fooled many more times. If a master plan exists, .. it's unlikely to work in the way the US administration envisions.”

This is also totally false; multiple people who definitely never had their email “provided” by someone with humanitarian parole got the email. It’s clear DOGE used the wrong dataset.

“The Trump administration is indeed discussing this idea behind the scenes …. In their most serious form, these conversations have revolved around attempting to denaturalize American citizens and deport them to other countries, including El Salvador.”

Going on @ayman.msnbc.com in 45 minutes or so to talk about this nightmare filing. Please remember that if the Trump administration succeeds in establishing this precedent, nothing will stop it from whisking away innocent American *citizens* to rot in an El Salvador prison forever.

The basic issue, as always, is that that guys can't imagine that there could be anything at stake beyond their personal bugbears.

I sometimes wonder what the end-game is here. A bunch of oligarchs running AI companies with no employees? And where are the consumers in this dystopia?

He’s right.

I don’t use the “fascist” term often or really ever, as to preserve its meaning, but what the United States Government is embarking on with the El Salvadoran prison camp is simply that. It’s an affront to the rule of law, the Constitution, and centuries of Anglo-American constitutional development.

The AP could do a great public service by actually publishing these memos (if it’s able to do so)

The US government has made an agreement to pay a foreign government to imprison people without any legal process for 12 months (pending the US government's decision as to what happens next) while putting in court testimony that it has no power to recover an individual from foreign custody

Brace yourself for public figures to be even smaller and more cowardly than you thought possible, and some neighbors and family, too. (Even if you thought they couldn't disappoint you any more than they have.) But we can't give ground. This is deliberate evil. They're testing how far they can go.

A Christianity that gets offended at the idea of a society using its resources to care for one another is a Christianity that has abandoned Jesus a long time ago.

Digital robber barons.

Elon Musk and Donald Trump are the most powerful enemies of Americans' rights in the history of our country.

“For electronics, at least, we’re now putting much higher tariffs on intermediate goods used in manufacturing than on final goods. This actually discourages manufacturing in the United States.”

there is simply no amount of child death that will move RFK to change his mind because he is a predatory narcissist who cares less about health than the gratification of his own ego

Exiling people beyond the protection of US law without due process is not only unconstitutional, it's a rejection of the entire American revolutionary project. Sending people "beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences" is one of the grievances enumerated in the Declaration of Independence.

The Trump regime is claiming tyrannical powers. Not an exaggeration, not hyperbole, not a partisan statement. The reality we now face.

I am not the first guy to notice or say this but these slimeballs accidentally invented doing the Cultural Revolution again without knowing who Mao is

I looked this guy up on linkedin and he's been at the SSA for 26 years. worked his way up from IT grunt to associate commissioner

I really can’t get over the fact that it took so many major U.S. companies and institutions less than 100 days to Orbanify and become vessels for Trump

I’m not kidding; this is DOGE at work; multiple US citizens getting notices that they just leave the country because USCIS is revoking their humanitarian parole. www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

Some newer details in here via @nikkimcr.bsky.social @andrewperez.bsky.social and me for @rollingstone.com

A thing Dems should steal from Trump to keep stuff like this in the public consciousness is hammering nicknames to keep these things top of mind. He's not Pete Hegseth anymore he's "Signal Pete Hegseth" or "Signal Pete" or just "Signal"

“We need to shift professors, artists, and intellectuals to working in farm fields. A ‘Cultural Revolution’ if you will.”

A very, very good question.

I don't really know what to do about stuff like "rural people voted for Trump because they think Biden refused to give aid to western North Carolina" when Biden gave the aid and Trump denied it.

This story hasn’t gotten nearly enough attention. It is openly fraudulent what they’re doing.

They made up shit about FEMA and now are getting screwed by Trump for what reason exactly? Just for the evulz I guess I'm since NC voted for him!

I understand why but it is funny how much guillotine and firing squads are associated with horror movies and/or totalitarian regimes in ways lethal injections aren’t even tho the injections is actually the more barbaric method and almost certainly the most painful and torturous of the three

It is very good question and one I’ve been asking for months. If there is an international agreement with El Salvador for these renditions, the Trump administration is legally required under the Case-Zablocki Act to share it with Congress. To my knowledge, they have not done so.

As far as I can tell Yarvin's popularity among the silicon valley crowd dates back to a Slate Star Codex post. Scott Alexander actually *is* smart and devious and argued for Yarvin's stupid ideas more persuasively than Yarvin could.

Wow Curtis Yarvin is fucking dumb, huh? And I don’t mean in a ‘everyone who disagrees with me is an idiot’ way, there are some people who have espoused views I find abhorrent that are clearly intelligent, like he legit does not know what he’s talking about.

Some of the deportees are what he says; others are not. There’s no evidence that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is one of “the most violent alien enemies of the world”. Because due process was denied we don’t know who fits his description. He is claiming power to “disappear” whomever he chooses
