Thank you so much for your kind words & solidarity @qmucu.bsky.social. Hope all other @ucu.org.uk branches will follow us @ducu.bsky.social @umucu.bsky.social @sheffielducu.bsky.social @uswucu.bsky.social @ucuglos.bsky.social @ucugreenwich.bsky.social @ucuwestminster.bsky.social @uclucu.bsky.social

Hurrah! The brilliant @urbc.bsky.social has joined Bluesky! Give them a follow if you care about migrants and challenging the hostile environment and #UKHE at large.

HANG ON! We've got a BBC series angle? Will that do the trick of making people care? Or does that only count for ITV drama? #UKHE

Glorious thread of all that talent that's being nurtured at Cardiff. Perfect protest, making visible what is about to be destroyed if government keeps pretending it doesn't need to do anything about #UKHE.

Cambridge is trying to criminalise protest on campus. But not all protests. Only protests related to *one specific viewpoint* they consider inconvenient. They claim to do this in the name of "scholars of the university." Sign our open letter if you weren't consulted docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Very useful.

#CampusTradeUnions Please sign and share this open letter - as the University of Cambridge seeks a pre-emptive injunction specifically targeting pro-Palestinian protests #FreedomforPalestine docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

One thing that's become very clear across this national wave of crisis announcements is that far too many senior managers are very deliberately trying to scare people into taking VS. It's unconscionably cynical and cruel.

Presumably these rights apply to all UK workers

If you’re an MPhil/MRes/ResM/PhD student, don’t forget to fill in the survey about the cost of living! Completely anonymous: queenmarysu.typeform.com/to/I35q9eJe

Wishing we could have been surprised, but nope. Of course @qmul.ac.uk SET took disciplinary action, coordinated w police (AGAINST OUR OWN STUDENTS), & received briefings from GSA (these charming people: gsaglobal.com). Of course they did. Our students aren’t a problem. news.sky.com/story/new-ev...

<bumping for all the universities where managers are having 'informal' chats about taking voluntary severance offers> (Seriously, #UKHE managers, can you be just slightly less underhand? for once? Sure, not illegal, but definitely unethical and only adding to staff anxiety.)

The data isn't as simple as any of these consultancies like to present it as; and paying them a lot of money doesn't mean they're capable. And yet, all our managers are enthralled with them, despite their track record of failure, and despite HAVING ACTUAL EXPERTS ON PAYROLL.

The blandification of education & research. Hard not to feel like consultants and managers just want interchangeable, uncritical, personality-free little radars in money-making-machines...

TODAY! 12 noon - assemble at St Volodymyr Statue, W11 3QY 1pm - rally at Russian embassy, W8 4QP Followed by social at The Champion, W2 4LW

This is appalling, but sadly the tip of the iceberg. This is happening across the sector and more duplicitous senior managers at other institutions have cut far more and far harder but over a longer period to suppress media coverage. What are 30 jobs here and 50 jobs there? It is 750 jobs over 5 yrs

Exactly what scholars said would happen when the immigration policies were announced. Drops in international students, leading some universities to take more domestic students, leading other universities to budget deficits because they can't hit enrollment targets. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Lobbying led UK universities to adopt US-style security during Gaza protests, emails reveal - www.theguardian.com/education/20... "UK students faced excessive disciplinary measures as a result of heavy-handed strategy, reports claim"

From the article the Welsh government are trying to do a bit but saying they need UK wide coordination, and the central gov... isn't responding. The "no plan so there's a series of painful adhoc adjustments that no one really thinks is a good idea" outcome for Uk higher ed looking incredibly likely.

#AcademicFreedom | BRISMES CAF strongly condemns the Free University of Berlin’s cancellation of the February 19 lectures by UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese & Israeli architect Prof. Eyal Weizman (1/3). Read our letter: shorturl.at/oYEzv @freieuniversitaet.bsky.social

@johnmcdonnellmp.bsky.social is joining tomorrow’s demonstration alongside the UK trade union movement, demanding a JUST and fair peace for Ukraine. ✊🇺🇦 Ukraine’s future must be decided by their people—not Trump, not Putin! #StandWithUkraine #Solidarity #JusticeForUkraine

This is hideous. There's no clarity or transparency, or indeed any attempt to create them. There's no sense of what a university is *for* - or of any care for workers or students. It has my stomach in knots just reading it.

"the presentation’s slide on ‘mental health support’ prompted collective laughter (which was edited out of the official recording)" Seldom seen such a neat encapsulation of the Absolute State Of #UKHE.

From the sounds of it, quite a lot of managers in #UKHE universities are opting for 'informal' chats about voluntary severance options, rather than, transparently, open an actual VSS. If this happens in your place, know your rights But also: our DMs are open, we'd love to know where this happens
