In the first epidemiological study of critical illness across Africa, Professor Rupert Pearse, NIHR Professor of Intensive Care Medicine from @qmulwhri.bsky.social and colleagues found a high incidence of preventable deaths due to issues with the provision of basic critical care.

New research by an international team led by @qmul.ac.uk have found new genetic links between genetically-predicted height and an individual’s likelihood of developing a range of diseases and conditions. These new data could help improve early diagnosis and risk monitoring for patients.

Disruption of a single amino acid in a cellular protein makes #breastcancer cells behave like stem cells, finds new research led by Queen Mary’s Institute of Dentistry. The study found that changes to the intermediate filament (IF) protein, vimentin, were found to promote tumour growth.
