My current favorite instagram account is this guy!! www.instagram.com/reel/DE2NVBP... #geology #Taiwan

Check out our paper that came out in @science.org today. It uses some really cool experiments to explore the rheology of temperate ice. We find that contrary to colder ice this warm ice has a value of n=1!! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

My partner *SHUTS DOWN* his laptop after a day of work. I think I just found my new year resolution, starting from once a week….

We’re currently 12% of the way to our End-of-Year Fundraiser goal! Donate now to help us hit 25%! hubs.la/Q02_NDqT0 All funds, except those directed to a specific project, will go toward our Small Development Grants. #OpenCode4BetterScience #FuelTheFuture #NumFOCUS

I think I’ve reached peak Bluesky.

The fact that I don’t have to pack for flying gives me immense joy. #AGU24 #train2AGU

No insight into the earthquakes in California from me, but here are some focal mechanism cookies. Most of them are strike slips but some with non-double-couple component 😉

#postdoc #jobalert The Swiss Seismological Service and its Real-Time Seismology group are looking for a Postdoc researcher with strong programming skills to support and expand the Earthquake Early Warning software infrastructure. Apply until 8 January 2025:

Something very close to my heart, my alma mater NCU, and my research. PTS Taiwan made an in-depth report on active fault survey in Taiwan. Just aired and no caption yet. 台灣公視我們的島「追蹤斷層帶」 www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_sp...

The #EGU25 call for abstract is open! We are looking forward to receiving your abstracts for the session on induced/triggered seismicity in geo-energy applications, co-organised by the ERE, EMRP and SM divisions. Deadline: January 15th More info: meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/sessio...

I was reminded of this great book 'Escape From Model Land' by Erica Thompson that I read a couple of years ago — it takes a very broad view of the term 'model'; i.e., not just sophisticated numerical models but also conceptual models and narratives, the ways we explain the world — highly recommended

Really feeling the morning bike lane traffic today in this prolonged dry spell. Is Boston the new California? #bikecommuting #onemorelane

Might be a good time to read up on the history of science & how it's fundamentally a social process (as it is carried out by humans) & how it's deeply intertwined with power relations. Decades of literature! Will be super helpful when having (yet another) debate about science and politics! 🧪⚕️🛟

Happy that @pvdstreets.bsky.social is here. They make this rad little city I call home ever more enjoyable!

On a brighter note, I secured my Amtrak tickets for #train2AGU 🚅 #choochoo

so a lot of people are talking about the 4b movement. a lot of western women, specifically younger ones, who seem to have largely heard about it through social media via other western, non-korean people, or by articles that cover it with a tinge of orientalist exoticism. if i may, some thoughts: 🧵

It's now live: QuakeHack, the he first statistical #seismology #hackathon for early-career scientists is happening next year! 🎉 Applications are open until end of January: quakehack.ethz.ch Share the word! With thanks to the Swiss Seismological Service, @seismosocam.bsky.social for the support

I went to a summer school in Corsica about earthquake and faulting. But will you look at this dyke. #geology

This story hits close to home in many ways – back in midcoast Maine this summer, I listened to much discussion of the RT fallout. Excellent reporting by Simson & Rabinowitz @canarymediainc.bsky.social, and from @jtemple.bsky.social before that: www.technologyreview.com/2022/06/16/1...

Just some pretty maps about the history of Taiwan 🥰 A short history of Taiwan and China, in maps econ.st/3zLF0Yt

This figure illustrates how record warm ocean temperatures fueled Hurricane Beryl, causing it to intensify faster, reach greater strength, maintain that strength for longer, and likely dump more rain than it would have otherwise. Source: www.bbc.com/news/article...

As an old as 👵🏼 PhD the struggle and self doubt is too real. But hey everything I got to do is the wildest dreams of my former self.

Thinking a lot about this article today after three relatively junior women, including me, resigned from my department—two of us deciding to leave academia entirely—in a little over a month.

Just finished the CIG crustal deformation modeling workshop. It might be the most wholesome conference/workshop I’ve ever been 🥲

So Brown University probably discovered that they pay too little to postdocs, they hold a seminar for them: “seven steps to start investing as a postdoc”. #IvyLeague #BrownU

I throw my CHF funding at MBTA commuter rail for a year now. At some point a Stadler train should appear, right? Right?

Very envious of all the #train2egu posts. I am saving the #train2agu tag for this December 😠 @eurogeosciences.bsky.social

Savoring the time back in Taiwan with a meta-sandstone macaron with quartz filling.

My gawd the #AGU23 is going too fast but will you look at this colorbar 🤌

The sheer scale of AGU fall meeting and the sheer flight time to and from it 🫨

Confession: I love my research, but half of the time I don’t really care about if there is a concrete scientific question for it. Dose that make me an engineer? (No)

First invited visit/tech support done! It’s great to share what you’ve done but also terrifying to verify your own results 🫣

New job, new social media! #AcademicHustle
